About this Role and the People Team
The People Team manages the full employment lifecycle within THC, from candidate attraction and onboarding, through to learning & development and employee relations.
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll and Benefits Specialist will be a key member of the Payroll People Shared Services Team. This role is an excellent opportunity to grow and develop within the Payroll & Benefits field, with the successful candidate supporting the Payroll Manager and Benefits Manager alike to ensure that Payroll and Benefits are consistently delivered correctly for all THG's US-based employees and be there to answer any employee queries. We are looking for someone eager to learn and develop, with high attention to detail, accuracy, and an organized and methodical approach to their work.
Your Responsibilities
- Maintain payroll information via internal systems (ADP). Collect, calculate, and correctly input data.
- Update payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, job titles, and department/division transfers.
- Maintain and update personal employee data changes in our internal payroll system, e.g. address changes, periods of leave etc.
- Calculate deductions for group health, life, and disability insurance premiums and communicate to employees and payroll staff.
- Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions leave, and non-taxable wages, and communicate with insurance carriers and other program vendors.
- Build, maintain, and adjust payroll controls - ensuring compliance and controls to safeguard that key areas of risk are identified.
- Administer a variety of voluntary deductions such as United Way contributions, U.S. government bond purchases, and stock purchase plans. May administer pension benefits, retirement programs, 401(k) plan contributions and disbursements, and contributions to various thrift plans.
- Escalating any concerns or risk areas promptly to the Payroll Manager/HR teams to ensure compliance.
- Maintain payroll guidelines by contributing to policies and procedures.
- Correctly and sensitively handle all employee data to maintain confidentiality and ensure employee confidence in the wider Payroll/HR teams.
- Support all payroll audits.
- Stay informed of current payroll legislation, legal guidelines, and changes, using your knowledge to guide THG toward best practice and legal compliance.
- Support the Payroll Manager to deliver the overall Payroll strategy across the US group, advising and building reports where necessary.
Qualifications and Experience:
- 2-4 years' experience required in either a payroll-specific or a heavily controlled, related administrative field.
- Ideally has experience working in a multi-state environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- A sharp eye for detail with consistently high standards in their approach to work.
- A willingness and eagerness to learn and develop.
- Working experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Proactive worker, able to use their own initiative to identify areas for improvement.
- Solid Team player with great organizational skills.
- Work well under pressure and deadlines.
- Enthusiastic, positive, with a 'can-do' attitude.
- Ideally proficient with ADP WorkforceNow payroll software.
