We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Specialist to drive Health and Safety efforts in our automotive assembly business division - to ensure we have a culture of wellbeing, safety prevention, and ownership across the workforce and across the business's three Michigan locations.

They work closely with plant leadership and HR, are a core member of the corporate safety team and serve as a company safety subject matter expert.

HEALTH & SAFETY SPECIALIST - Key Job Responsibilities
- Monitor safety risks throughout the worksite and intervene, address, or escalate as needed. This includes leading and participating in proactive Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
- Proactively identify and drive changes to minimize risks and prevent injury/illness.
- Promote a positive and safe work environment through teamwork, employee involvement and education.
- Implement at least two safety initiatives each month per site.
- Ensure equipment, tools, security practices and housekeeping meet corporate safety standards.
- Encourage employees to understand Safety risks and maintain safe behaviors on and off the job.
- Work with management and supervisors to set up lines and work practices that reduce risk.
- Encourage employees to build and maintain healthy habits and use wellbeing programs/resources.
- Train employees in safe practices and procedures during onboarding, monthly safety topics and as needed. Maintain complete and compliant training and certification records.
- Maintain an effective emergency response plan. Conduct safety drills as needed.
- Investigate and respond to safety-related questions, suggestions, and complaints.
- Conduct near miss, accident, or injury root cause investigations. Use Plan, Do, Check, Act to ensure solutions are effective.
- Maintain OSHA 300 occupational injury and illness log.
- Maintain written communication programs such as HAZCOM/SDS "Right to Know," Bloodborne Pathogens and Lockout/Tagout.
- Lead and maintain an effective stretching and warmup program.
- Work with closely Corporate Safety Team in investigating and learn from worker's compensation claims.
- Follow up with employees on medical restrictions to facilitate safe and expedient return to work/return to health.
- Maintain compliance with state and federal safety regulations.
- Maintain and distribute workplace safety gear and supplies and ensure proper use.
- Stay current on Health and Safety regulations and best practices.
- Lead site and business Safety and First Responder teams.
- Report weekly on learnings and highlights on company safety review call.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
HEALTH & SAFETY SPECIALIST - Qualifications
- Enthusiastic about health & safety - and it's importance to employees and business success
- At least three years of Health and Safety experience in a manufacturing or logistics work environment
- Strong knowledge of work-related Health and Safety risks and mitigation
- Knowledge of state and federal workplace health & safety regulations
- Enjoys problem solving and continuous improvement
- Understands human behavior and change management
- Effective communicator with variety of people and vehicles
- High integrity and professionalism
- Resilient and adaptable
- Able to analyze, interpret and use data
- Detail-oriented with effective organization skills
- Ergonomics expertise desired
- Associate degree in a related field desired
