Job Summary

The Group Executive Director is responsible for supervising Facility Executive Directors of their designated market facilities, towards overall operational success. Overseeing daily operations of multiple facilities, including strategic direction and the overall clinical, medical, administrative operations, management of the group.

 

The Group Executive Director is charged with providing oversight and strategic leadership to their assigned facilities. They will demonstrate ownership over P&L responsibility and partner with the Facility Executive Director on the strategic road map to drive metrics and financial measures, as well as improve human capital and systems/processes to optimize performance. Simultaneously, the Group Executive Director must anticipate and address ways to continuously drive EBITDA growth and to mitigate potential challenges to the business, whether they are operational, financial and/or strategic.

  • Direct supervision of Executive Directors of assigned AAC facilities in the group/market.
  • Drives change and is willing to challenge historical ways of doing things in the organization based on to purse the highest possible outcomes.
  • Oversight of and responsibility for the performance of AAC treatment centers in the designated Group or Market.
  • Ensuring that Key Performance Indicators are aligned the goals of AAC as an organization including adherence to organizational priorities under all 5 pillars of excellence: People, Service, Quality, Finance and Growth.
  • In partnership with the assigned Facility Executive Director, staff the facility with high quality department leaders who possess the knowledge and experience to deliver best in class SUD treatment; assist with management of the facility leadership teams as necessary.
  • In partnership with the assigned Facility Executive Director, motivate facility leadership team through a system of metrics and develop a culture of accountability.
  • In partnership with the assigned Facility Executive Director, support supervision and communication with local leaders and ensures that their needs are met.
  • Via proactive and consistent communication, mentor Facility Executive Directors to lead the following responsibilities including:
    • Preparation of an annual budget and strategic business plan leading to favorable performance.
    • Compliance to regulatory readiness to accreditation standards, as well as any federal, state, or local certifying and licensure bodies at each assigned facility.
  • Ensure staff in-services and training programs are implemented and followed.
  • Oversee efforts to train and develop director-level staff in areas including budgeting, position control, etc.; includes building competency among directors to confidently report metrics within their area of oversight.
  • In partnership with AAC VP, Operations, Chief HR Officer, VP and Talent Acquisition team, develop and maintain staff engagement and retention plans designed to maintain and/or decrease industry annual attrition at 35%.
  • Oversee direct supervision through use of performance competency process and scheduled supervision.
  • Within each market, promote leadership accountability to focus on safe staffing levels with the ability to always treat and admit patients; includes proactive partnership with sales and marketing to communicate barriers and challenges.
  • Assess, recruit and maintain an appropriate leadership structure with adequate redundancies.
  • Enforce and monitor facility policies and procedures that prioritize the safety of all clients and staff.
  • Establishes regular meeting cadence that prepares and supports the Facility Executive Directors.
  • Leads Monthly Operational Report (MOR) meetings with AAC Executive Leadership for assigned facilities.
  • Willingness to provide leadership at assigned facilities includes requirement (with limited advance notice) to be flexible, to be available beyond normal business hours, and to travel for extended periods of time, pending the market/location of need.
  • Leads and completes additional tasks and special projects as directed by the AAC Leadership.
  • Conducts site visits at an established cadence to engage with frontline staff and maintain a pulse on facility culture.
  • Proactively solve problems that affect the quality of care delivered to clients and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate, share, and implement best practices across all facilities and drive efficiencies.
  • Act as a conduit and liaison between facility leadership teams and AAC executive leadership team members.
  • In the states that assigned facilities operate, understand unique cultural, workforce and regulatory demands and how they impact day to day treatment within that state.
  • Implements strategies to monitor and improve quality of care, patient safety, and patient/referral satisfaction.
  • Co-liaison with centralized Quality Assurance and Human Resources departments to maintain survey readiness, including mock-survey preparation, and knowledge of current federal, state, and local certifying and licensure bodies.
  • Participates in the establishment of practices, (structures, bylaws,) policies and procedures that allow the professional staff to effectively carry out duties and functions.
  • Participates in treatment program changes and developments, meets and confers with clinical team, Physicians and standing committees to formulate treatment policies and management of resources.
  • Reviews all incident reports to assess risk management and notifies AAC Leadership in real-time of critical incidents at assigned facilities.
  • Monitors adherence to company and department policies, procedures, practices and adherence to established KPI’s, program metrics, and established strategic planning.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility in alignment with budgets, including ownership over facility expenses and staffing levels.
  • In partnership with Facility Operations, Human Resources and Clinical Operations, utilize Position Control data to maintain accuracy of open requisitions, staffing levels, staffing ratios, use of overtime, and use of stipends to drive favorable salaries/wages/benefits (SWB); build position control competency among director-level leadership and drive accountability via daily, weekly, and monthly SWB budget vs. actual analysis.
  • Partners with Vice President, Operations and Executive Leadership to prepare and present annual budget and strategic operating business plan.
  • Assists facility Executive Directors with development cost containment ideas for facility.
  • Works with facility Executive Directors in recommending and ensuring regulatory staffing patterns & managing annual budget.
  • In partnership with AAC VP, Operations, and VP, Business Development, and Facility Executive Director identify EBITDA growth via new patient acquisition strategies, and by maximizing Payor Mix, Average Daily Revenue (ADR), Average Daily Census (ADC), Length of Stay (LOA).
  • Consistent and purposeful interaction with AAC Call Center and Business Development Team to ensure admission and transition processes are managed effectively and accurately.
  • Identify, and partner with new local market entrants and other disruptors; understand the Facility’s unique product offerings and the corresponding threats and opportunities within the Facility and local market.
  • Works with facility Executive Directors to ensure the referral source management process is delivered accurately and timely.
  • Lead community focused, local marketing efforts to increase transparency and foster collaboration with community stake holders.
  • Strengthen and prepare the operational infrastructure of the assigned facilities for future growth via organic, local, and national admissions growth.
  • Works with facility Executive Directors to ensure the referral source management process is delivered accurately and timely.
  • Actively participates in public relations efforts and state/national professional organizations in partnership with AAC PR department.

Education/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in healthcare/business administration preferred.
  • Five to seven years of senior-level operational management in Behavioral Healthcare preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the necessary components to deliver high quality patient care including but not limited to:
    • Driving key metrics to desired levels such as improved length of stay, raised patient satisfaction scores, decreased unsuccessful discharges.
    • Hiring and retaining high performing staff and managers.
    • Foster a culture of patient safety as evidenced by reduced medical emergencies, reduced sentinel events and improved outcomes at all levels of care.
    • Successful completion of surveys by accrediting bodies such as The Joint Commission, CARF and state auditors.
  • Ability to interpret financial statements and enact action plans/strategies to achieve financial goals.
  • Skillful leader with knowledge of fiscal management and human resource management techniques.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively lead in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of government regulations, accrediting bodies (The Joint Commission), payor requirements, and compliance requirements.
  • Skilled in exercising initiative, judgement, problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage and supervise various positions and relate well to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds as well as have a passion for working with at-risk, cultural, and socioeconomically diverse populations.
  • Ability to anticipate, and react calmly, and lead others in crises and emergency situations.
