Executive Director, Nauset Youth Alliance (NYA)
SUMMARY: The Executive Director is responsible for the Nauset Youth Alliance (NYA) After School Program and NYA Summer Program including: all educational components, NYA enrichment program, and phases of curriculum and programming. Develop and supervise programs, manage staff, ensure a balanced budget in partnership with the Board Treasurer and/or bookkeeper, and assesses community/school needs. With support from the Assistant Director, oversee daily operations, administer all organizational policies and procedures. Maintain all files in compliance with EEC and NYA regulations and decisions. Enrollment responsibility for NYA programs including timely registration, correspondence and meeting deadlines. Function as liaison to Nauset Schools, EEC, Child Care Network, Town Government, and Recreation Department, Cape Cod Children’s Place, Bailey Boyd, other appropriate agencies, organizations and community. Assist with grant writing, criteria, administration and reporting pertaining to the needs of the program and the populations that it serves.

ABOUT NAUSET YOUTH ALLIANCE:

Nauset Youth Alliance provides after school and summer child care for youth ages 5-14 in a structured and safe environment at both Eddy and Stony Brook Elementary Schools in Brewster, MA. NYA enhances the growth and development of youth and families in our community by nurturing and inspiring our children – creatively, socially, civically, academically –positively guiding today’s youth into tomorrow’s world. NYA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and is licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC). Our QRIS rating is currently Level One.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Teaching certificate/application to the office for Early Education and Care (EEC)
  • Certification/other professional certification related to care and supervision of children with a minimum of three years of teaching, educational or recreational programming, and/or child care experience.
  • Master's Degree in Education, Community Leadership, Educational Administration, Business or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge/skills in instructional and personnel management, human relations, communications, and leadership, elementary education and child psychology or development.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of EEC regulations and all state and federal regulations in regards to school age childcare and employment.
  • Experience as an administrator of an educational institution or other program that included duties and qualifications consistent with the job description herein.
  • Must be EEC Program Administrator qualified.

REPORTS TO: Nauset Youth Alliance Board of Directors

SUPERVISES: Nauset Youth Alliance employees, volunteers and children including: Administrative

Assistant, Enrichment Coordinator, Site-Coordinators, Group Leaders, Assistant Group Leaders, Bookkeeper, Volunteers and Enrichment Instructors, as well as children in NYA care.

PERFORMANCE:

Leadership:

  • Develop, supervise, administer, and continuously improve a comprehensive after school and summer program that meet community and school needs. Provide overall planning, direction and reporting for all operations, budget and staffing on a timely basis or as mandated by the Board.
  • Develop a cooperative relationship between administrators, faculty, board members, and staff, to facilitate promotion of programs.
  • Advance regional and individual program goals by working collaboratively with other after school age administrators/staff, other human services agencies, and educational institutions.
  • Represent NYA appropriately and serve as an advocate by participating in activities and professional organizations directed toward furthering the after school age care concept at local, state, and national levels.
  • Supervise community-based projects of NYA involvement such as the school or community based fairs or festivals, Town Meetings childcare, Brewster in Bloom, NYA fundraisers, and the NYA Open Houses in the fall and Annual Meeting in the spring.

Administration:

  • Oversee concise and timely completion of all reports required by the NYA Programs and by various state and local agencies or institutions.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal/state personnel laws and labor contracts (when appropriate).
  • Complete all required organization, staff and student paperwork, files and record keeping on a timely basis and maintains such in an organized manner with up-dates as expected or needed. Maintains appropriate records or files to be kept by both sites on hand.
  • Supervise and support the after school and summer programs.
  • Develop annual NYA budget and present to Board of Directors by February prior to each new fiscal year, and administer and monitor receipt and expenditure of funds in conjunction with Treasurer. Report monthly to Board on budget status. Ensure that all resources are managed effectively and within budget constraints.
  • Monitor child care licensing process to ensure compliance with all requirements of EEC and MA.
  • Coordinate and administer effective and efficient use of district's physical facilities for NYA use.
  • Negotiate leases/in-kind use with school district, establish and interpret policies and procedures for facilities use, determine and approve building use. Maintain all insurance policies applicable.
  • Make policy recommendations to the Board of Directors relative to NYA programs and the school/community.
  • Attend, or designate appropriate staff to attend district, regional, and state meetings relative to improvement of district and after school age care programs, including school committee meetings, administrative meetings, town meetings, Board of Trade, etc.
  • Coordinate and/or supervise public relations activities to inform community members about all NYA activities and programs, including press releases, brochures, parent/student and employee handbooks, website information, etc.

Personnel:

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate qualified staff according to program and state guidelines.
  • Conduct written performance evaluations of staff to be completed at 30 days and annually. Annual reviews to be completed no later than March 31st of each year.
  • Create positive climate and work environment for NYA staff and develop opportunities for staff recognition.
  • Recognize concerns of staff and create plan to address such. Document and file occurrence reports for incidents.
  • Assess staff development needs and provide appropriate professional plan and training. Maintain CEU’s as mandated by EEC time frame and implement plan for those not in compliance.
  • Follow approved procedures for requesting and documenting time off for all employees including Executive Director.
  • Post work schedules monthly and with at least a one week notice to employees of any change to work schedule unless an emergency situation.

Curriculum and Programming:

  • Conduct continual assessment and curricular review of NYA Programs.
  • Delegate curriculum development to Curriculum Coordinator and Site Coordinators as appropriate.
  • Provide instructional leadership to ensure that the NYA Programs are responsive to all students and parents, and complies with state and local requirements.

  • Develop relationships with children in program that are fair, positive role modeling, and respect; is able to anticipate behaviors and use skillful communication with students.

Financial sustainability and development:

  • Identify funding opportunities to generate federal, state, or private financial support and direct program efforts to obtain supplemental funding for community education.
  • Assist with grants for various plans within programs. Maintain current knowledge relative to state and federal legislation and its potential impact upon region and school age care.
  • Provide periodic reports to the Board regarding the status and accomplishments of programs or staff. Perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
  • Participate in and, if necessary, lead fundraising events and activities.

Executive Director Position Details
Appointment through mutual agreement Executive Director and Board of Directors for TBD – June 30, 2025 to be reviewed and resigned annually

APPOINTMENT PERIOD: 52 weeks

  • Academic Calendar year begins one week prior to school beginning and ends upon the Friday of the last week of school.
  • Summer Calendar begins the week after the academic year ends, averages 7-8 weeks for active program and 1 week for clean-up.

HOURS: Time commitment must be flexible to include morning, afternoon and evening hours on a varied schedule. Commitments may include weekend hours as needed for related functions and comp time may be granted upon prior approval by the Board of Directors.

Academic Year: Director is typically required to be on-site between 10:00 AM and 5:30 PM during daily operations with ½ hour non-paid lunch break. This equates to 37.5 hours per week on site. The Director has 2.5 hours off-site weekly to conduct other program related business. Off-site obligation that will require additional time must have Board knowledge and approval. In-service/professional development dates as designated by the Nauset District will also be working days for NYA Director.

Summer Program: Director is expected to be on-site or in-office 8:00 AM - 4:15 PM and attend field trips. Board approval must be given in advance for off-site time.

SALARY: Wage based upon 40-hour work week, experience, educational qualifications, merit and fiscal review of program. Salary range for this position is $60,000 - $75,000.

BENEFITS:

  • Health Insurance/IRA: $4,000.00 paid annually (lump sum) above salary directly toward health insurance or in the form of contribution to an Individual Retirement Account. Amount or percentage of NYA contribution toward health insurance is subject to change annually.
  • CEU/PDP, Memberships: Approved professional memberships paid through NYA. Up to $50.00 annually paid toward CEU/PDP, which is accruable. $200.00 annually paid toward educational goals, not accruable.
  • Vacation/Holiday: One Hundred Sixty (160) hours vacation time annually. Time to be taken when school and/or program are not in session and/or upon prior Board approval. Five (5) paid sick/personal days annually to be used at the employee’s discretion and all snow days as called by the Nauset District per year, only if applicable. Paid holidays as per the Nauset Regional calendar (Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Friday After, Christmas Day, New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Patriots Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, and July 4th. No accruement of time to be carried over to the next calendar year.
