POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Assoc. Vice Chancellor for Grants & Contracts Administration or designee, the Executive Director is responsible for developing and implementing new policies, procedures, systems, and training to ensure compliance with Grants and sponsor regulatory requirements. The Executive Director will be expected to collaborate with key stakeholders to understand the business impact of major projects and strategic initiatives related to the research mission of the University.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Develop and implement strategic planning initiatives regarding the Medical School’s research and contract administration in collaboration with senior administration.
• Responsible for responding to the needs of researchers, supporting research processes, infrastructure, and procedures, and working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators to foster a positive productive, and growing research environment.
• Management and development of project plans, timelines and implementation for special project requests and reporting
• Assist AVC in the building, development of, mentoring and coaching of the GCA team to meet the needs of the research enterprise with a forefront on research compliance.
• Collaborating with other research stakeholders on issues and concerns such as research agreements, fee-for-service contracts, confidentiality/non-disclosure agreements, sub-award management, export control, and federal conflict of interest (FCOI)
• Development and analysis of reporting opportunities over the grant lifecycle related to strategic initiatives which include complex reconciliations, interpretation, and thorough documentation.
• Perform analysis of productivity, key performance indicators and work capacity to track departmental performance against baseline projections and targets.
• Serve as an institutional resource for new and changing regulatory and sponsor requirements. Including interpretation, dissemination and education of changes and their impact on current and future grants management policies and procedures.
• Oversight of training development and delivery for Research Administration and research processes, procedures, and policies
• Document and communicate grant and contract administration policies and procedures as a member of GCA leadership.
• Use Business Intelligence & Analytics to drive business results, monitor progress, strategic planning, and budgeting.
• Provide leadership, coordination and problem-solving for research data reporting needs throughout the organization.
• Engage a broad range of stakeholders, business owners and executives to build out meaningful reports and analytic tools; including defining business requirements to understand needs and strategize actionable insights.
• Perform other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in business, Research Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience
• 10+ years of demonstrated administrative responsibility in research administration, finance, business management, or related fields; with previous higher ed management and leadership skills working in a large complex environment preferred.
• Possess high-level communication skills, both oral and written, including development of proposals, reports and analysis presented effectively across a diverse population of stakeholders.
• Strong time management and critical thinking skills with ability to organize and prioritize workload, identify problem areas, and take action to meet deadlines.
• Advanced knowledge of OMB Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards and the NIH Grants Policy Statement
