Job Description
Position Summary: Under the direction of the Public Relations Director and as part of the Public Relations and Development team, the Graphic designer is responsible for developing and implementing promotional materials that support the library and its mission. These activities include but are not limited to the creation of brochures, flyers, program support and other material for both print and digital outlets, coordinating and implementing branding efforts throughout the system including facilities, vehicles and promotional materials, advertising and creation of art content including video for the library's social media channels. This person will also work with outside vendors as needed. Attention to detail, deadlines, flexibility and being an independent worker who brings ideas to the table is critical in this role.
Responsibilities:
- Design and produce brochures, flyers for large scale events, materials to support programs such as summer reading celebration, bookmarks, posters, and other marketing materials.
- Collaborate with Public Relations team for concept development and creative problem solving.
- Work with social media coordinator to develop content.
- Design internal print materials to support brand.
- Work with brand managers to coordinate and implement branding throughout the library locations.
- Monitor design and social media trends and implement as needed.
- Work with the Digital Librarian and staff to assist with website redesign as needed.
- Develop, manage, and maintain storage for all print and digital content created.
- Maintain electronic files for current and past work, including photo files.
- Coordinate design and promotion for larger library events, such as the Independence Branch Haunted House, Literacy Fair. This includes but is not limited to flyers, posters, social media posts, etc.
- Support the library's Foundation as needed with design needs.
- Package all print materials and send to printer after final review from Public Relations Director.
- Provide a monthly report of activities to the Public Relations Director.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design, marketing, public relations, or related fields; two years relevant experience.
- Must possess excellent customer service skills.
- Must be a problem solver and have the ability to work independently.
- Solid knowledge of design and visual principles.
- Demonstrated portfolio showing creative, design and software skills.
- Ability to evaluate choices critically with the patron in mind.
- Must have the ability to learn and become proficient in skills, functions and technologies required to perform job duties, working effectively independently or cooperatively as part of a team, maintaining effective working relationships to complete assigned tasks and accomplish job responsibilities.
- Knowledge and familiarity with computers and new technology, including the Internet, plus, a willingness to keep abreast of new technology and an ability to incorporate this knowledge into the work.
- Mastery of graphic design software, including but not limited to Canva, Adobe Products (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), Video Editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop.
- Must have a sense of humor.
- Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent and timely communication skills, in-person and electronically.
- Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to sit, stand, bend, kneel, reach, and retrieve items weighing 20-30 lbs.; must be able to lift 30 lbs.
