Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Graphic Designer to fill the position of Community Engagement Creative Designer located in Columbus, York, Lincoln, Norfolk, or Kearney, Nebraska. This position is eligible for a partial telecommute, with the expectation of working on site at the Columbus General Office as determined by leadership and based on business need. Position closes March 10, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Community Engagement Creative Designer will lead the design effort to plan, develop, and implement program materials that advance the mission of the Community Engagement group in schools, agencies, and other organizations, with a special emphasis on the Energy Education program. A broad understanding of STEM based concepts and a passion for learning are preferred.
The Creative Designer creates visual content and coordinates graphics, photos, and video to be used in the layout and design of print and digital work. Must be able to multitask and prioritize multiple design projects within a deadline. The Creative Designer is a relationship builder capable of establishing trust with business units, educational organizations, community partners, and customers.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design, communications, education, journalism, business, science, a technical discipline, or a related field.
OR
Associate Degree in graphic design, communications, education, journalism, business, science, a technical discipline, or a related area; PLUS 3 years of relevant experience is required.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in graphic arts, marketing, advertising, or corporate communications is desired.
Must have proven experience with InDesign, Photoshop, or other graphic design programs and a portfolio of work examples. Illustration skills are highly desired.
Technical knowledge and an understanding of STEM based concepts is preferred.
Experience with web-based systems such as WordPress, Webflow, HTML/CSS, and other web development software is desired.
Experience in community relations, special event planning, and public speaking to diverse audiences is desired.
Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Designs and develops materials and resources to be used for the mission of the Community Engagement and Energy Education programs.
Create, design, and develop visual concepts to communicate a broad range of ideas that educate, inspire, inform, or captivate an audience through a variety of media platforms including print, digital, video, etc.
Provide operational leadership and program support for NPPD’s Community Engagement and Energy Education initiatives.
Identify and foster partnerships with schools, associations, civic groups, and businesses to help improve and expand Community Engagement and Energy Education efforts and programs.
Design interactive presentations and disseminate information regarding NPPD’s Community Engagement and Energy Education initiatives to schools, program participants, and other community agencies.
Support, research, and incorporate innovative instructional strategies and educational materials that help satisfy K-12 academic standards.
Design and integrate learning opportunities to expand NPPD’s education efforts beyond the classroom.
