Job description

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch is seeking to hire a Graduate Student assistant to work under the direction of the Program Performance and Reporting Unit Chief. In collaboration with program staff, the student assistant performs a variety of public health-related functions that include data management and analysis, tracking, monitoring, and evaluation work for provider outreach. The student assistant will also perform other tasks as assigned.


Conditions of Employment

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

Prerequisites


Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (fall, spring, and winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Students must be enrolled in at least: four-semester units or six quarter units for Graduate Students.
Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.


Majors/Fields of Study

Public Health, Nursing, Epidemiology, Environmental Science, Health Science, Natural Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, and/or Organic Chemistry, Algebra, Calculus and/or Statistics


Work Schedule

F lexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM – 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.


Additional Work Schedule

Graduate Student Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).


Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office software, including Forms, Excel, One Drive, Word.
  • Expertise in collecting, organizing and analyzing data.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using statistical methods/software.
  • Effective organization, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Fast typing skills and attention to detail.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compiling data into various databases for process and outcome measures.
  • Developing spreadsheets to organize data and verifying for accuracy; data management and analysis.
  • Effective collaboration with groups and strong communication skills.
  • Handling additional duties as needed.

Physical Requirements

Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.


Working Conditions

Work is performed in a remote environment.

Students will be required to work according to the current UEI remote workplace policy and sign a UEI telework agreement.

The Department also protects patient safety in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities, maintains birth and death certificates and prepares for, and responds to public health emergencies.
CDPH works continuously to reduce health and mental health disparities among vulnerable and underserved communities to achieve health equity throughout California.
