Job Summary/Basic Function

The Student WellnessGraduate Assistant (SWGA) at Maryville University will play a pivotal role in advancing the institution’s commitment to student health and wellness. Working closely with the Dean of Student Wellness, the SWGA will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and evaluating wellness initiatives across campus. This position requires a dynamic individual who can blend research, program development, communication skills, and advocacy to promote holistic wellness in alignment with the 8 Dimensions of Wellness.
Essential Duties:


Data and Metrics:

1) Design and implement research strategies to measure outcomes related to student health and wellness.

2) Collect, analyze, and publish data reports highlighting progress in Student Wellness Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

3) Utilize data to inform and improve ongoing wellness initiatives.
Capacity-Building:

1) Develop and execute programs and training sessions focused on personal growth and collective resilience.

2) Collaborate with campus partners to integrate wellness knowledge and practice into the university’s curriculum and co-curricular activities.

3) Facilitate workshops and seminars aimed at enhancing student, staff, and faculty understanding of wellness concepts.
Outreach and Communication:

1) Actively promote Student Wellness initiatives through effective communication strategies.

2) Foster collaboration and awareness among students, staff, and faculty.

3) Coordinate with campus organizations and departments to integrate wellness into the broader university environment.
Support:

1) Develop strategies to support the evolving wellness needs of the Maryville University community.

2) Engage in policy improvement, community engagement, advocacy, and alignment of activities with wellness goals.

3) Represent Student Wellness in university-wide and division-wide committees.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Enhanced Research and Data Analytical Skills: Develop the ability to design and conduct wellness-related research, including data collection, analysis, and reporting. Learn to use research findings to inform and improve Student Wellness initiatives and policies.
  • Program Development and Implementation Competence: Gain experience in creating, executing, and evaluating wellness programs and training sessions. Learn how to effectively translate wellness knowledge into practical applications that promote personal growth and resilience in the university community.
  • Effective Communication and Outreach Abilities: Enhance skills in communicating wellness initiatives, including developing marketing strategies and collaboration techniques. Learn to engage diverse campus groups effectively, fostering a community-wide understanding and participation in wellness programs.
  • Policy Development and Advocacy Skills: Develop an understanding of how to influence and improve university policies related to Student Wellness. Gain skills in advocacy, learning how to represent and support the wellness needs and interests of the student body.
  • Leadership and Professional Development: Strengthen leadership abilities by overseeing projects and possibly guiding teams or committees. Cultivate professional skills such as time management, problem-solving, and ethical decision- making in a higher education context.
  • Compensation:

    1. Stipend for the academic year:$3000
    2. Tuition award for the academic year: 12 credits/ up to a maximum of $9864 (dependent upon the program of the student).

    The award is based on 20 hours per week for 15 weeks each semester. It is expected that students earn their credit hours in the fall and spring semesters by being enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours each semester. Credits must be earned by May 31 each year. Tuition waiver does not cover fees, private music lessons, books, or OneCard charges. Students will receive ½ of their annual stipend during the Fall semester and ½ of their annual stipend during the Spring semester. Each semester, the stipend will be divided into 8 payments. Fall stipends are paid on or about September 15-December 31. Spring stipends are paid on or about January 31-May 15

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Admittance into one of the following graduation programs at Maryville University:
      • MBA, MUTH, M.ED, ACSCI, DSCI, Ed.D
    • Strong research and analytical skills.
    • Demonstrated interest or background in public health, wellness, psychology, or a related field.
    • Experience with utilizing statistical analysis software (i.e., SPSS, Qualtrics, SAS, Excel, R, etc.).
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Proactive, innovative, and collaborative approach to problem-solving.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
