Student Safety & Wellness Officer
Position Summary:
The Student Safety & Wellness Officer is responsible for promoting and ensuring a safe and supportive school environment for all students. Their special focus is on campus supervision before, during, and after the school day and helping to enforce school rules and policies. Additionally, SSWOs will work with school administration to help the school’s most truant students and families to support more on-time attendance. Reports directly to School Administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Campus Supervision: Provide enhanced supervision of the campus (both outside and inside) before, during and after the school day and respond accordingly to events that require additional support. Supervision can include school entry/exit, hallways, restroom areas, common areas, and outside places where school events happen (i.e. Stoner Park, Prom, etc).
- Rule Enforcement: Support the school’s vision by helping to enforce school rules and policies directly related to attendance and student conduct. Report any issues directly to the Administration in a timely manner. Oversee lunchtime detentions
- Truancy Intervention: Monitor and address student truancy issues through investigative visits to students' homes and discussions with families to identify and address root causes.
- Resource Coordination: Collaborate with school Counselors, Teachers, Administration, community organizations and social services to connect students and families with resources such as counseling, social services, and academic support.
- Crisis Intervention: Provide additional support and intervention for school members in the event of a Level 1 & 2 Emergency.
Qualifications:
- HS Diploma / AA of BA Preferred
- Experience and desire to work with youth and families in an educational or social services setting.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills
- CPR & First Aid Certification (or can become certified before hiring)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with professionalism
- Able to pass a LiveScan DOJ Background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of community resources and social services available to support youth and family
- Experience in crisis intervention and family support services.
- Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations related to truancy and student well-being.
Pay Range:$18-22 an hour depending on experience
Working hours:Monday - Friday 7:30 - 4:30 with a 30-minute lunch and a 15-minute break each day. All federal holidays & school holidays and breaks (Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, Spring Break) are paid time off. All SSWOs will work 10 months in a calendar year (June & July are off).
