Summary of Responsibilities
Stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) have emerged as critical energy assets to expand electric vehicle and renewable generation adoption, reduce energy costs, and assure the supply of electricity in response to natural disasters and cyber threats. EVGRO's Business Operations team is seeking to hire an Operations & Maintenance Services (OMS) Engineer who will support the deployment of GM's energy storage assets. This position is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing organization in a critical role to help enable GM's vision for a Zero Emissions future.
This team member's primary responsibility will be to focus on all OMS of GM's BESS installations for C&I and utility scale markets, and interface with relevant teams to support the business growth of GM Energy. Specifically, this individual will be responsible for planning and implementation of all OMS on-time, on-budget, and without incidents/accidents in a customer focused approach.
This position reports to the Business Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with relevant internal teams (such as product and engineering groups), suppliers, consultants, and partners to identify and plan for OMS best practices for new BESS products
  • Review new design of BESS products with relevant stakeholders to ensure that OMS best practices are considered during design phase
  • Assist engineering with development of comprehensive new product field testing and validation plans to ensure designs are fully tested and validated prior to application and shipment to customer sites
  • Prepare and complete OMS documents for new C&I and utility scale BESS products
  • Oversee contractors and sub-contractors to ensure quality and schedule are met and to ensure safety guidelines and requirements of OMS are followed on job sites
  • Develop new tools, implement processes, provide feedback, and work with other team members to ensure continuous improvement of OMS
  • Work independently in the field and with R&D Engineers to resolve high level technical issues
  • Support typical commissioning activity including:
    • Providing onsite diagnostic, troubleshooting and hands-on technical support as needed
    • Work with Engineering and Products teams to develop and host customer training sessions
    • Create professional quality installation reports for internal and external stakeholders
    • Define, develop and execute testing protocols based on market rules, local utility requirements, or other third-parties.
  • Collect feedback on any/all product defects and/or improvement ideas and work with product management leadership to ensure continuous improvement

    Additional Job Description
    Required Skills / Experience / Education
    • Familiarity and experience with OMS and commissioning best practices is required.
    • Experience within BESS for C&I and utility scale markets is preferred.
    • Undergraduate degree in electrical engineering or at least four year's professional work experience in related field, such as commissioning, performance testing, and/or troubleshooting.
    • Knowledge and experience with SCADA protocols such as modbus.
    • Working knowledge on PLC, Relays & Meters, & SCADA Gateways.
    • Experience with Managed Ethernet Switches, Media Converters (Fiber & Serial).
    • Experience with Inverters (various manufactures).
    • Experience managing contractors and working on fast moving projects.
    • Desire to work in a complex and evolving environment and to bring an innovation mindset. Comfort working in a fast-paced start-up technology environment is essential.
    • Solid skills on MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook (MS Project a plus).

    Remote:This position does not require employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work off-site on a permanent basis with 20-40% travel.
    Compensation:
    • The expected base compensation for this role is $80,982 - $129,361 USD Annually.
    • Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
    • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
