What We Do:

The Markets Group of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York implements monetary policy on behalf of the Federal Reserve System, executes lender of last resort operations for depository institutions in the Second District, provides payments and custody services to foreign central banks, and acts as fiscal agent for the U.S. Treasury. The Markets Group is also responsible for the development, production, and governance of the benchmark reference rates administered by the FRBNY, including the Effective Federal Funds Rate (EFFR) and Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR).

There are a number of open Analyst positions in the Markets Group, including in the Cross-Market Monitoring and Analysis (CMMA) directorate. You will report to an Associate Director in CMMA and have opportunities to work collaboratively with a diverse range of staff across the Markets Group. The positions will be filled in New York or Chicago.

The CMMA directorate leads monitoring of developments across Global Financial Markets and the production of a range of market briefings and analysis delivered to policymakers and staff throughout the Federal Reserve System (FRS) and at the Treasury Department.

The CMMA directorate is currently looking to fill an Analyst position to support the process of preparing the FOMC Desk briefing and other senior-level engagements and possibly a second role to support analysis of U.S. monetary policy expectations including conducting the Surveys of Primary Dealers and Market Participants. Selected individuals will play a leadership role in developing and maintaining innovative charts, tools, and data with broad visibility within the Federal Reserve System and in the public domain.

Your role as Global Financial Market and Policy Analyst:

  • Support the SOMA Manager and other senior leadership, either through supporting the preparation of the FOMC Desk Briefing and other presentations or through supporting the analysis of U.S. monetary policy expectations, including support for the Surveys of Primary Dealers and Market Participants.

  • Support a wide range of activities related to the reporting, monitoring, and analysis of Global Financial Market conditions and U.S. monetary policy expectations through charting, data management, and analysis

  • Assist with outreach and engagement with external market participants

What we are looking for:

  • Demonstrated interest in economics, Financial Markets, monetary policy, statistics, data science, or a related discipline through prior experiences, including coursework.

  • Demonstrated experience managing and manipulating large datasets across a range of data sources including experience with Microsoft Excel, Tableau, or other visualization software.

  • Experience with, or willingness to learn, advanced software for data analysis (such as SQL, Python, R, GitHub, and/or Alteryx).

  • Experience with survey administration software, such as Qualtrics, is a plus

Salary Range:

NY: $96100 - $118900 / year

Chicago: $84600 - $104700 / year
