Job Summary:

As the Global Communications Manager in Caterpillar’s Resource Industries Operations & Product Division, you lead a team of communications professionals supporting global business partners communicate their business strategies. You’re a trusted adviser to the Sr. Vice President, Product and Operations Vice Presidents, the HR Director and CFO as you provide innovative and tailored communications solutions.  

You play a key role in ensuring the success of the team today, and the future, by partnering on communications and change strategies supporting business strategies, metrics, organizational design, people priorities and create materials for various speaking engagements internally and externally. This role gives you the opportunity to partner with a diverse workforce across all continents in a fast paced and changing environment. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with the media team to tell compelling stories highlighting our businesses and people in various markets.

What you will do:

• Develop and manage the Global Communications plan for the division.

• Conducting final review and approval before internal or external communications are released.

• Consulting with managers on messaging using the power of words, images, sounds and multi-media.

• Coaching staff involved in any communication events or presentations.

• Advising organization on all aspects of communication formats to ensure clarity and accuracy of message.

Planning & Project Management : Creating and implementing a strategy for supporting current and future business needs while also leading the execution of the agreed upon timelines. Ensuring stakeholder awareness and approvals are gained appropriately.
Communicating Complex Concepts : Quickly grasps complex ideas and details with the ability to summarize and simplify in a simple, clear language appropriate to the audience(s).

Effective Communications : Communicates effectively with diverse audience, internally and externally, develops a deep understanding of global cultures, to ensure messages are clearly written and understood. Has the ability to coach others on methods of improving their own communications.
Influencing : Leads and presents collaborative proposals that persuasively influence decision makers. Delivers well-received presentations of cost, benefits, risks, and other considerations. Advises on techniques to build rapport and commitment to common purpose. Achieves influence and impact even when holding a position contrary to the majority.
Initiative : Chooses to go above and beyond what’s expected of the role without being asked. Proceeds without seeking unnecessary permissions while keeping stakeholders properly updated with progress.
Interpersonal Relationships : Seeks out what's common in conflicting points of view. Establishes, influences and maintains credibility with key individuals inside and outside own group and earns respect at all levels of the organization.
Communicating & Writing: Creates and develops materials, speeches, presentations, reviews press releases, and develops internal and external social media plans. Will play a leading role in defining division and segment specific writing approaches and practices.

Organizational Communications : Develops organizational communication strategies and policies. Advises others on a wide spectrum of communications programs. Leads in the design and development of multimedia communications campaigns. Champions the use of innovative communications vehicles and practices.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in business or communication; in lieu of degree – 15 years of experience in the Corporate Communication space

• 10+ years of Corporate Communication experience

The primary location for this position is Peoria, IL

Domestic relocation assistance is available
