Position Description
The GIS Analyst III is responsible for performing geographic and non-geographic data manipulation, management and analysis, cartography, and utilizing GIS processes using a variety of software environments.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Compile, manipulate, refine, and distribute geographic data from a variety of sources including public domain data warehouses, field observations, remote sensing and existing geographical data.
- Produce detailed, high quality cartographic map products (digital and hardcopy) and accompanying reports in accordance with company standards and methodologies, technical guidelines, and client needs.
- Revise existing GIS layers and create new layers following established standards and procedures.
- Correct geospatial location of features based on aerial photography or topography.
- Perform regular quality assurance of GIS data and associated graphic components.
- Identify issues and ensure that jobs are completed according to schedule.
- Work closely with engineers, surveyors, technicians, project coordinators, project managers, and support staff to process geospatial data.
- Communicate efficiently with project team members to meet multi-user goals.
- Perform independently and with others in order to understand and generate special purpose maps while maintaining and updating geospatial data.
- Manage project tasks related to GIS, database design and management, and data visualization.
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously, with a commitment to keeping projects on time and within budget.
- Maintain exceptional internal and external client relations.
- Demonstrate leadership ability by overseeing technically all GIS related aspects of projects and/or tasks, with minimal guidance from management
- Ability to perform QA/QC on various GIS tasks of other similarly or less experienced employees
- Assist the Information Technology (IT) department with general IT coordination tasks.
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor?s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related field and/or equivalent combination of education & experience
- Minimum eight (8) years applicable experience
- Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS software, ESRI server and web-based technologies
- Solid understanding of geospatial concepts ? projections, coordinate systems, etc.
- Strong understanding of how to extract data out of multiple formats for merging into GIS databases, such as Pipelogix, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, BS&A, and AutoCAD.
- Must possess a valid driver?s license and be able to travel to the corporate office as well as local clients and project sites
- Excellent concentration and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail
- Exceptional written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams including technical and non-technical personnel
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines as well as balance multiple projects by prioritizing effectively
- Ability to collaborate and work between MCA Market Sectors, as needed
