JOB TITLE: GenerationsDaycare Lead Teacher
REPORTS TO: Generations Daycare Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY:
The Lead Teacher assists with leadership and direction for the Thornapple Manor Daycare, an on-site service provided to staff members. Generations Daycare is open for children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age, with two classrooms separated into 6 weeks to 2.5 years old and 2.5 years to 5 years old. We are currently hiring a Lead Teacher for each group. The Lead Teacher works alongside the Daycare Supervisor to assist with development of daycare services and lesson plans, child supervision and other essential daycare functions.
The program will be open 6:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday Friday.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure that each family receives an opportunity to build strong relationships with teaching staff by maintaining ongoing, open communication with all families.
- Collaborate with children's families to ensure a smooth transition from home to childcare setting.
- Follow all procedures, policies, and licensing standards.
- Provide a classroom environment that encourages participation of all children.
- Plan periodical parent conferences to discuss children's developmental progress, needs and interests.
- Create and carry out weekly plans and implement an age-appropriate curriculum that nurtures and stimulates all domains of each child's development.
- Provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects diversity and inclusion while working on children's learning and growth.
- Perform ongoing developmental evaluations of children as required.
- Able to maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the organization
- Demonstrable record of making decisions on behalf of children with their well-being the top priority.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Two years of teaching experience.
- Possess an Associate degree in early childhood education or child development; or a Child Development Associate credential w/ 18+ hours of college credit; or a Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development or a child related field.
- Typical requirements before working directly with the children include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for staff, Mandated Reporter training; Shaken Baby Syndrome; Sudden infant death syndrome; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens; complete a Tuberculosis test and a physical and provide documentation of all.
- Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards, pass the criminal history background and fingerprinting process and completion of YMCA program specific certifications.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND EXPECTATIONS:
- Ability to work alongside the Site Director.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Strong knowledge of childcare programs.
- Be comfortable with computers and learning new software.
- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities. Such as: be able to kneel, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Be available as early as 5:45 am and as late as 6:15 pm.
Qualifications
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:
1. Meet one of the following to qualify as an Early Childhood Program Lead Teacher in the State of Michigan:
(a) Bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood education or child development.
(b) Montessori credential with 480 hours of experience.
(c) Associate's degree in early childhood education or child development.
(d) Valid child development associate credential with 480 hours of experience.
(e) High School Diploma or GED with 12 semester hours and 960 hours of experience.
60 semester hours with 18 semester hours in early childhood education or child development and 1920 hours of experience.
- Be at least 19 years of age.
