Job description

The Learning Community is a vibrant public charter school that centers the voices of students, families, and teachers. We seek a detail-oriented, hardworking, and committed Maintenance Worker I to ensure we have the safe, clean, and appropriate school environment needed to accelerate learning for all our students. At The Learning Community we believe that literacy empowers each individual to have a voice, take social action, and assume community responsibility. The ideal candidate considers themselves handy in maintenance work. The Maintenance Worker I performs multi-craft work to maintain and repair the physical structure of the school building and its properties. Work may include areas such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/ or HVAC.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

The Maintenance Worker I will:

· Perform minor repairs of building and equipment.

· Replace broken windows, repairs doors, door locks, and install window blinds. 

· Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists on assigned tasks and building equipment such as machinery/mechanical, sprinkler systems, and other areas as assigned. 

· Follow preventative maintenance procedures and maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures. 

· Make minor electrical repairs or assist in electrical tasks requiring a licensed electrician.

· Perform outside custodial duties such as snow removal and salting as required.

· Regularly inspect machinery, mechanical equipment, and sprinkler system compressor for defects to ensure equipment is in working order.

· Make minor plumbing repairs such as opening clogged drains using appropriate tools or assisting in plumbing tasks requiring a licensed plumber.

· Perform basic outside maintenance and upkeep of the school grounds to maintain safe and attractive conditions.

· Use and wear safety and/or protective equipment as necessary and appropriate.

· Adhere to proper cleaning methods, storage, and proper care of school equipment and supplies.

· Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure a safe environment for students and team members and maintain equipment, materials, and facilities.

· Report all accidents and/or potential hazards to the Director of Operations immediately, or as soon as reasonably possible.

· Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building when assigned and ensure that all doors and windows are secured, lights are turned off and alarm system turned on before leaving the premises.

· Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned/required.

Minimum Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and must be a U.S. citizen or resident or have work visas. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of experience working in a related position:

· Teamwork: They build and keep the trust of their team by being respectful, reliable, and easy to work with. They assume the best and are committed to building good relationships with those they work with every day.

· Proactive and clear communication: They communicate well with their team and colleagues across the organization. When there’s a delay, or something goes wrong, they are proactive about updating those affected or asking for help if they need it.

· Language Literacy (bilingual in English and Spanish): They provide coverage for Spanish-speaking shine crew team members when needed and will need to be able to communicate in Spanish as needed. They must be conversant in Spanish.

Physical Working Conditions of Position:

· Ability to lift at least 50lbs up to 100lbs and climb a ladder.

· Must be able to frequently walk, stand for extended periods of time, and lift equipment weighing up to about 100 pounds may be required.

· The work environment also exposes the team member to potentially hazardous substances, such as chemicals in cleaning supplies. The Maintenance Worker I is subject to (will be expected to work) inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and hazards, including all types of weather, potentially extreme heat and cold at times.

Salary, Benefits and Other Details:

Workday. The Maintenance Worker I position is a full-time, 40 hours per week, salaried position reporting directly to the Director of Operations. The position is a year-round position, 8am-4:30p.m., with flexibility required during some early mornings and evenings for building emergencies or inclement weather. Additional flexibility will be required during school breaks and summer hours.

Salary. The salary range for this position is $50,000-60,000, commensurate with experience.

Vacation and Benefits. In addition, we are proud to currently offer:

· Medical Insurance: 95% paid by LC regardless of plan type (single, family, etc.) $8k-$20k value, depending on type of coverage.

· 401k Retirement: No waiting period for voluntary contributions; 7% base salary match after 1 year of employment. After 3 years of employment to be fully vested.

· Life Insurance: $50k life insurance plan free of charge while they are employed by LC.

· Time off: 12 paid holidays; 13 paid sick days/2 paid personal days per year. 3 weeks of paid summer vacation.

· Optional Insurance: Vision/Dental/Life/Short Term Disability-100% employee paid.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per hour
