We have an exciting opportunity for a Gateway 2024 Summer Intern Electrical Engineer to join our team with the Engineering Division.

**This internship is a temporary role not to exceed 12 weeks**

The Summer 2024 Intern - Electrical Engineer for work on a concept for a new Portable Equipment design will:

  • Work in a team environment, and report to project engineer or project manager for technical support, task assignment, and processes
  • Work with a fellow ME to design provide the electrical support for a prototype piece of hardware that provides power for portable equipment
  • Tasks will include researching dc/dc converters designs, emi filters, and usb-c controller topologies
  • Using an electronics design software to draw the schematic of the prototype PCB.  Work with a designer to layout the PCB and then get the PCB manufactured and populated
  • Populating a bill of material to get parts for the circuit ordered
  • Developing test plans and executing the tests for the prototype PCB
  • Modeling circuits in a spice software tool
  • Troubleshoot and test the design to achieve a working design by end of employment term
  • Interact frequently with other JETS teams and departments
  • Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions
  • Perform other duties as required

Requisition Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of school (Ideally 2 )
  • Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering (Other engineering may be appropriate on case/case basis)
  • Interest in circuit design, PCB layout, circuit troubleshooting
  • Experience with oscilloscope measurements, multimeters, and other test equipment
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Currently enrolled at an accredited university
  • Completed at least 60 credit hours
  • Minimum of a 2.8 GPA
  • Self-motivated, team player and adaptability to a dynamic environment and the ability to complete all assignments as required
  • Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical/electrical systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision 

Requisition Preferences:

  • Electrical engineering degree seeking student
  • Familiarity with common hand tools and proficiency using them to perform assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting on mechanical and electrical systems
  • Prior experience with hardware anomaly troubleshooting and failure analysis
  • Experience with procedure development
  • Experience with NASA or Aerospace Industry 
  • Experience with written procedures and quality controls
  • Experience with tools like Altium or Eagle CAD (or similar)
  • Experience with Pspice or LTSpice or equivalent
  • Interest in learning about system engineering
  • Experience with doing physical testing - assembling test hardware, destructively testing components, deconstructing and analyzing hardware post-test

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Other Essential Functions

Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
