POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park Center, which operates a mission-based family and group conference and retreat center, serving more than 150,000 guests annually. The YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park Center, operates a fall and spring Gap year program. The Program provides young adults with various opportunities designed to improve self-confidence, increase self-awareness, and develop critical life skills.

The Gap Program Coordinator provides leadership, assists in developing curriculum, manages projects, functions as a liaison, provides mentorship, fosters interpersonal relationships, and evaluates program performance all while building an intentional community among the Gap Program participants. In addition, the Gap Program Coordinator leads the Facilitators, Gap Fellows, and participants through the day-to-day tasks required to achieve personal growth and success at the YMCA of the Rockies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide leadership that is uplifting, inspiring, and empowering.
  • Partner with department leaders to understand and anticipate needs that ensure alignment of workforce availability with Gap activities.
  • Provide regular status reports on program performance.
  • Determine scalable learning and developmental opportunities for future participants.
  • Assist with facilitating recruiting events relevant to Gap programs.
  • Oversee center Gap program expenditures and budget.
  • Hire, advocate for, and manage a team of Facilitators. 
  • Work closely with the recruiting team and Facilitators to hire participants.
  • Manage Gap projects that align with strategic HR priorities.
  • Ensure that activities, work projects, and programming are planned and executed thoroughly.  
  • Respond to afterhours participant emergencies.
  • Support Facilitators and Gap Fellows with escalated concerns and inform HR leadership of incidents.
  • Function as a liaison between Gap Facilitators, participants, department directors and HR leadership.
  • Ensure that social media content about the Program is adequate and appropriate.
  • Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships between the Gap Program and third-party organizations that can support Gap Program Day activities.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the HR Department regarding Gap Facilitator and participant issues.
  • Manage pre-arrival communication meetings with Facilitators, participants, and departments through various outlets.  
  • Facilitate weekly workshops on various topics of interest that build community and connection among Gap participants.
  • Plan, organize, and invite all staff to major Gap events such as graduation.
  • Possess a valid, USA state-issued driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and comply with YMCA driving rules to be approved to operate YMCA vehicles.  
  • Ability to drive a 15-passenger van for day trips, overnight trips, and enrichment activities on mountain roads and in city traffic.
  • Have a high level of emotional intelligence and maturity.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule as the hours may vary and will include on-call shifts, weekends, evenings and holidays. 
  • REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Two years of general program and facilitation experience preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.  
  • Supervision and leadership experience.
  • Must possess and maintain current CPR and WFA certifications, or willingness to obtain. 
  • Possess stamina, and interest, to engage in physical indoor and outdoor activities every week. 
  • Ability to interact with young adults in a mentorship and leadership role.  
  • Supervise and work collaboratively with a team of Facilitators.
  • Create personalized programming and plan events for Participants.
  • Possess passion, knowledge, and ability in a wide range of personal hobbies (i.e., backpacking, yoga, climbing, art, music) to teach and share with participants informally.  
  • Adapt to the changing needs of the program and the Participants.  
  • Possess aptitude in developing trusting and collaborative relationships with multicultural participants.  
  • Must be extremely organized, have impeccable accuracy and attention to detail, and possess the ability to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.  
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, be self-directed, and make good decisions.   
  • Ability to communicate fluently in speaking, writing and reading English. 
  • Proficiency with software systems and registrations. Advanced knowledge of computers for maintaining database, spreadsheets and providing general correspondence.  Knowledge of Microsoft software (i.e. Word, Excel, and Publisher.) 
  • Promote a cooperative, positive and problem-solving atmosphere at all times. 
  • Ability to operate office equipment: computer, telephone, copier, scanner, etc. 
  • Ability to oversee and complete projects in a timely manner.  
  • Perform personnel administrative tasks such as emailing or calling volunteer organizations that want to participate in Gap Program Days.
  • Set healthy boundaries with participants.
  • Set an example for co-workers, staff, and guests.
  • HR Office Duties as needed

  • Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards.
  • All other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds
  • Must be able to walk up to two (2) miles on uneven terrain
