Description of Work Unit
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation's leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.
The CSU Microbiome Network was started by a CSU wide investment in microbiome science. This initiative catalyzed the hiring of 7 faculty members who are affiliated with 6 different departments across CSU campus spanning the colleges of liberal studies, natural sciences, engineering, and agriculture. Our faculty and staff apply research-based solutions to benefit Colorado and the world, with microbiome research impacting human and animal health, agriculture, climate change, and engineered systems to name a few. We support a graduate research certificate in microbiome data science and support an active research trainee community called the Graduate Researchers Across Microbiomes (GRAM). We host an annual symposium known as the Front Range Microbiome Symposium to catalyze our community of researchers across the rocky mountain region. We are a passionate, collaborative, and a dynamic community. The home department for this position will be in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, but this position supports a campus-wide research initiative.
