- Negotiating with carriers to obtain the best possible shipping rates for customers
- Tracking shipments using a software system and communicating with customers about delivery status
- Managing international shipping logistics for large shipments by working with customs agents, shipping companies, and other third parties
- Negotiating with manufacturers or other suppliers to obtain the lowest possible wholesale prices for products being sold overseas
- Coordinating transportation arrangements such as trucks, railcars, airplanes, barges, ships, or ocean containers
- Arranging insurance coverage for cargo and freight during transit, including theft or damage to goods during shipping
- Maintaining records of freight shipments and transactions to comply with federal law regulations
- Coordinating customs clearance procedures with government agencies to ensure that shipments meet all requirements
- Preparing shipping documents such as bills of lading, customs forms, and insurance certificates
