Who We Are


ALARA Logistics is a small, privately owned company experiencing a period of both growth and maturity. We are a specialized logistics company headquartered in Houston, TX, with additional offices in Australia and South Korea. We focus on all phases of transportation including high-consequence material, difficult-to-transport cargo, oil-industry projects, and hazardous cargo from conception to production. We have a small team (15-20 people in Houston) of professionals with specialized experience and licenses in the transportation industry, as well as administrative and warehouse staff.

We are open to considering a wide variety of backgrounds for this role. We offer a casual office environment and offer a hybrid schedule with one work from home day per week after you’ve been acclimated with the company.

Summary/Objective


Ocean Export Coordinator is responsible for providing Ocean Export services to client companies for their cargoes while ensuring operational excellence, high productivity, and customer satisfaction.

Job Description


Role and Responsibilities
Booking and Scheduling:
  • Coordinate bookings with ocean carriers and negotiate freight rates to optimize cost-effectiveness.
  • Monitor vessel schedules and proactively address any deviations or delays.
Rate Negotiation:
  • Negotiate rates with carriers and service providers to ensure competitive pricing and cost efficiency.
Coordinate Export Shipments:
  • Plan and organize the export of goods via ocean freight, ensuring compliance with international shipping regulations.
  • Collaborate with clients, carriers, and internal teams to facilitate smooth export processes.
Documentation and Compliance:
  • Prepare and review shipping documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists and IMO dangerous goods declaration.
  • Ensure compliance with customs regulations and trade requirements for various countries.
Inside Sales
  • Identify prospects, lead generation and conversion.
  • Contact new and existing prospects to discuss opportunities.
Communication and Customer Service:
  • Act as the main point of contact for customers, providing exceptional customer service and addressing inquiries related to export shipments.
  • Communicate with overseas agents, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders to coordinate shipments effectively.
Track and Monitor Shipments:
  • Utilize tracking systems to monitor the movement of shipments and provide regular updates to customers.
  • Identify and resolve any issues that may arise during transit.
Problem Resolution:
  • Proactively identify and address any challenges in the export process, finding timely and effective solutions to ensure on-time delivery.

Education and Experience
  • High school Diploma or equivalent (Required).
  • Must have 3-4 years’ experience as an import/export coordinator.
  • Experience in freight forwarding Ocean operations processes and procedures.
  • Experience with transporting dangerous goods; IMDG certification preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of customs regulations and import procedures.
  • Experience of bonded freight and cargo.
  • Prior experience working with logistics software and tracking systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of export and import operations, including documentation and preparation of bills of lading/delivery orders.
  • Previous experience in freight handling or logistics is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation management systems and logistics software Excellent data entry skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail-Proficiency in using CRM and TMS software and other relevant tools
  • Proven ability to negotiate rates and build customer relationships.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions.
  • Ability to obtain regulatory requirements for the transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Work authorization/security clearance requirements: Must be eligible to work in the United States; Must pass TSA eligibility screening.
