Job Description
Meat and Seafood Production Specialist
Purpose: To provide excellent customer service and prepare quality Meat And Seafood cuts for Seward Community Co-op's Franklin Store customers. To ensure the highest standards and quality of product, service, safety and sanitation. Ensure product knowledge is maintained throughout the Meat and Seafood department, and help to support department objectives, sales, margin, and labor goals.

Pay Level: IV
Responsibilities:
General
Prepare cuts of meat for best yield, quality, and appeal as specified by the M&S Manager
Maintain all necessary logs while preparing the daily fresh grinds and cuts.
Maintain fully stocked, attractive displays, while maintaining proper storage conditions.
Pull short-date or low-quality items, and process them accordingly.
Maintain accurate and attractive product displays and signage.
Participate in quarterly inventory
Participate in weekly, monthly, and quarterly deep cleans
Order product as needed.
Maintain high standards food handling, and proper product storage and rotation.
Ability to operate and clean all equipment safely and properly.
Offer tastes and samples when appropriate.
Department Maintenance
Remove trash promptly, clean up spills, sweep and mop floor as needed.
Inform Meat & Seafood Supervisor of equipment repair and replacement needs
Clean and stock Meat & Seafood display cases
Keep coolers, food prep and storage areas in clean, sanitary, and well operating condition. Inform Manager or Supervisor if repair or maintenance is needed.
Safety
Maintain safe working conditions at all times
Inform co-workers and managers of unsafe conditions and help to correct them
Practice proper lifting techniques and ask for help when needed
Practice safe cutting techniques when using knives and other all equipment.
Customer Service
Greet each customer by smiling and making eye contact, ask if any assistance is needed
Assist service counter as needed
Respond promptly to customer needs
Solicit customer feedback to improve service
Respond to requests for service and assistance
Give accurate product information and refer to others as needed
Understand and communicate the benefits of Co-op ownership to customers
Teamwork
Communicate with management and co-workers to help maintain an efficient and knowledgeable department
Work efficiently, safely and productively at all times.
Identify inefficiencies and work with direct supervisor to implement remedies
Maintain professional and respectful relationships with co-workers.

At least 1 year Meat cutting experience required
Functional
Ability to bend and lift repeatedly for extended periods of time
Ability to stand in confined space for extended periods of time
Ability to perform repeated actions for extended periods of time
Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, squat and walk for extended periods of time per shift
Bend and lift loads, not to exceed 50 pounds. Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezer, outdoors, etc.)
Ability to freely access all areas of the store including offices, sales floor, back stock areas, and walk-in coolers and freezers.
Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing up to 50 pounds
Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
Preferred
Knowledge of natural foods, Meat And Seafood
Demonstrated ability to work with customers and co-workers from various cultural backgrounds
English proficiency, multilingual is a plus
Knowledge of how natural animals are raised
Knowledge of simple cooking methods
