The MDARD Bureau of Food Safety and Animal Health has a mission to protect public health by ensuring a safe and wholesome food supply, while working to maintain a viable food and dairy industry. Food safety is a top priority. The Food Safety Specialist (Food Industry Specialist 13) is a field-based position within the Technology and Systems Unit of the Bureau of Food Safety and Animal Health. This position serves as a statewide resource specialist for policy and technology development. This position requires technical expertise in the work area(s), the ability to successfully communicate and the ability to be self-motivated.
Job Summary:
This position serves as a Food Safety Specialist in the Technology and Systems Unit and is a resource specialist responsible for evaluating program quality and effectiveness through uniformity in technology and adherence to policy. The position serves as an expert in Food Law and Food Code policy interpretation and advises and trains field staff and other agencies with program processes, policy, and technology development as well as collaborates with senior staff groups to coordinate on process and workflow advancements by way of technology and policy updates. This position is involved with information technology and data systems development, maintenance and initiatives, and has an active role in policy and procedure development related to program operations.
The ideal candidate for this position will have expertise in Food Safety and related program areas laws, regulations and procedures and knowledge and experience of information technology processes, procedures and systems as well as project management. Leadership skills and qualities, the ability to meet workload demands and take initiative, the ability to exercise professional judgment, build relationships and maintain a professional, productive demeanor and well as enhanced communication (verbal and written) skills are also highly desired in a candidate for this position.
