Job Summary:
The Fixed Equipment Engineer is responsible for defining, leading and / or supporting the Design, Inspection and Repair of Fixed Equipment including Tanks, Piping, Pressure Vessels, and Heat Exchangers, among others. This person will champion existing MI activities as well as define new strategies and requirements for the mechanical integrity of Fixed Equipment.
The position will work closely with the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Technology Center, EHS Technology Center, Process Technology group, and plant personnel.
Essential Job Functions:
- Champion Mechanical Integrity and Fixed Equipment activities, including:
- Corporate Mechanical Integrity Support
- Create, update, and own MI related corporate standards.
- Ensure standards meet RAGAGEP and best industry practices
- Provide training on standards and MI related programs
- Provide expertise in 2nd party audits of MI at the facilities
- Support CapEX and Procurement strategies relative to new Fixed Equipment quality and future MI requirements
- Create, update, and own MI related corporate standards.
- Facility and Business-level Mechanical Integrity Support
- Specification and/or review of equipment procurement packages
- In-service support of Fixed Equipment including
- Inspection plan development, review, and updating
- Inspection data review and remaining life analysis
- Fitness for service evaluations
- Repair / re-rate plan development and/or review
- Support management of change process
- Corporate Mechanical Integrity Support
- Ability to perform one or more of the following functions is a plus:
- Provide guidance on pressure relief inspection, maintenance, and storage strategies
- Provide guidance on risk based inspections per API 580 / 581 or other RAGAGEP
- Weld procedures and metallurgy review
- Thorough working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, RAGAGEPs, and Jurisdictional requirements, such as: ASME Section I and VIII, NBIC, API 510, 570, 650, 620, 653, STI SP001, UL142, TEMA, NFPA, OSHA 1910.119, EPA SPCC, etc.
- Additional experience with non-U.S. based requirements is preferred, such as Latin America and European Union codes/regulations
- Computer skills:
- Microsoft Products – Word, Excel, Powerpoint
- Codeware Compress/Inspect or similar
- AME-Tank or similar
- MathCAD or similar
- Demonstrated ability to work and lead in a team environment
- Good decision-making ability and problem solving skills
- Excellent organization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written
- Must be customer focused and be proactive in dealing with conflict, influencing others, listening, management of priorities, organization & planning, partnering, and utilizing a proactive approach to mechanical integrity
- B.S. Mechanical Engineering from accredited university or institution with 5+ years relevant experience
- Training in API, ASME, and other industry standards and RAGAGEPs
- Certified as an API inspector a plus
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in MI, Reliability, and PSM
- 5+ years of experience in Fixed Equipment (piping, pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, relief devices)
- Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, and executing a Mechanical Integrity program
- Experience with material science, corrosion, and fitness for service
- Extensive knowledge of OSHA PSM requirements
