About the Position: Serves as a Federal Wage System Supervisor (Assistant Lockmaster) at Chicago Harbor Lock and Dam within the Inland Marine Transportation System. Responsible for the implementation of all site operating and normal maintenance activities involving Lock and Dam operation and associated buildings, grounds and equipment operation and maintenance.Qualifications: Who May Apply: Only applicants who meet one of the employment authority categories below are eligible to apply for this job. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Lock and Dam Equipment Repairer Supervisor without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform the most difficult and complex duties of the position such as being responsible for supervising, instructing, and guiding the work of others in accordance with Lockmaster instructions on a daily basis. Experience working as a Lock and Dam Equipment Repairer Supervisor at a Lock and Dam site. I have performed and instructed primary Lock and Dam operating functions, coordinated maintenance efforts with site mechanic, checked on work in progress, and provided Lockmaster with status and progress of work. I have ensured that tools and equipment were used properly and safety practices and procedures were followed. I have been responsible to lead and perform the full range of repairs at a Lock and Dam site.
Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing and crouching. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. May occasionally lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds. Uses coordination of eyes, hands and feet, and also of legs and body in installing, repairing, or testing equipment in confined areas such as manholes, enclosed switchgear structures, or on overhead structures. Climbs ladders and poles.
  • Works inside and outside, subject to changing climatic conditions, loud noises, prolonged standing, falling, water hazards, drowning, cuts and bruises. Works in cramped places and is exposed to dirt, grease, fumes, and dust; works around heavy construction machinery, with and around power shop equipment. Occasionally will work behind bulkheads or in tunnels below water level.
