Well look no further as the City of Lexington has 18 open firefighter positions to help us meet the increase in demand for service due to an increase in the number of businesses opening and the number of residential neighborhoods being built. These 18 positions will be funded by a federal grant for three years.

Firefighter I and Firefighter II perform protective service work in fire suppression, rescue operations, hazardous materials operations, and emergency medical services. Responds to calls for service, delivers public education, attends required/mandatory training, and maintains a positive image to the public while maintaining response readiness. Firefighter II drives the firetruck when assigned as a relief driver.
18 full time positions funded through a federal grant.
Physical agility test required.
Minimum Qualifications for Firefighter I
- Graduation from high school or GED;
- Some experience in fire suppression preferred;
- Valid NC driver's license and good driving record;
- Some mechanical aptitude;
- Physical endurance and agility; and
- NC/IFSAC Firefighter certification or ability to obtain the certification within two years of employment.
Minimum Qualifications for Firefighter II
- Graduation from high school or GED;
- Two to five years' experience in fire suppression;
- Valid NC driver's license and good driving record;
- Intermediate mechanical aptitude;
- NC State Firefighter I and II Certification;
- Physical endurance and agility;
- NC Emergency Vehicle Driver Certification (FIP 3600);
- Completion of NC FIP 3623 Intro/Basic to Pumps;
- Completion of NC FIP 3624 Hydraulics/Water Supply; and
- Completion of NC FIP 3626 Aerial Apparatus Series.

Modified 24/48. Paid bi-weekly.
