- Starting Salary - $38,151.50
- Starting Salary with Certified Firefighter (FF II) - $39,105.29
General Duties and Responsibilities: Shifts are 24/48. While under direct supervision, the firefighter is responsible for protecting citizens and property while performing firefighting, rescue, emergency medical functions and public service. The firefighter will also perform fire prevention, general facility, apparatus, and equipment maintenance, public education and other related program and services as directed. Firefighters must maintain a constant state of readiness as all aspects of emergency service involve the saving of human lives and property which are the essential functions. All duties and responsibilities are deemed essential at the very least.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have knowledge in firefighting techniques, apparatus and equipment, building construction, emergency medical care, local geography streets and buildings, and local, state and federal fire codes. Must have skills in operating firefighting equipment, operating rescue and extrication equipment, interpersonal relations and oral and written communications.
Minimum Requirements: Must possess current NC EMT certification or national registry, completion of high school, some experience in firefighting, and in maintaining equipment required. Must have already completed some Firefighter certification classes and possess a current valid NC driver’s license. This is considered very heavy work, requiring the physical ability to climb, balance, crouch, crawl, push, and lift in excess of 100 lbs. frequently.
