Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The College is a dynamic learning organization that serves as a regional leader and preferred partner where quality learning experiences enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking and many other activities.
Germanna Community College is seeking a Financial Aid Programs Coordinator to coordinate all federal and state Financial Aid Programs and scholarship awards. Train staff members to process these funds, internally and externally.
The Financial Aid Programs Coordinator will determine student loan eligibility and manage the Federal Direct Loan, PLUS, and private education loan programs, in accordance with federal and private regulations. Develop and maintain strategies for using technology in support of student loan processes and better service to students and the college.
Leads all aspects of awarding, adjusting, disbursing, reconciliation, and communication in respect to federal grants, state grants, federal student loans, and alternative education loans.
With oversight from the Director of Financial Aid, this position oversees the duties of three staff members.
General Responsibilities Include:
- Provide supervision and training to staff in the areas of student aid processes, procedures, and eligibility determinations. Award, process, adjust and cancel student aid as required, based on program regulations and college policies. Update policies and procedures.
- Ensure that Germanna remains in compliance of Federal and State requirements.
- Accurately answer inquiries in person, by phone, Zoom, and email regarding all aspects of the federal, state, and institutional Financial Aid Programs.
- Aid in other areas as requested, such as preparation of reports, disbursement and reconciliation activities, outreach activities, the review of professional judgement and Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals and responding to staff and student inquiries.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
