Finance Director

Position Summary:

Working closely with the Executive Director and The Board of Directors, the Finance Director will direct and oversee the financial activities of White Bird Clinic including directing the preparation of current financial reports and summaries and create forecasts predicting future growth.

The Finance Director oversees the preparation of the Clinic's budgets and forecasts, the audit process, and works closely with the other members of the Senior Leadership team to monitor the performance of each Program and department. The Finance Director will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial and administrative activities of the organization.

Additionally, the Finance Director is a member of the Senior Leadership team responsible for developing and implementing the strategic plan in a manner consistent with the White Bird Clinic's vision and mission and ensuring fiscal stability on a short- and long-term basis.


Position Responsibilities

  • Establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring and reporting standards on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Creates and maintains internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs, team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP), and other regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Create and maintain consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across the Clinic.
  • Provide comprehensive financial updates and reports to The Senior Leadership team and the Board of Directors.
  • Manages the integration of billing information from the Electronic Health Record system(s) to the accounting system.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to maximize protection of Clinic assets, policies, procedures, and workflow.
  • Serve as an active member of the Senior Leadership team to develop, refine, and implement the Clinic's vision and mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Competencies


  • Proven experience managing the financial and accounting functions for a similar size not for profit, health and human services, or behavioral health sector entity.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of detailed financial data analysis.
  • Demonstrates experience with payroll processing/reporting and oversight of payroll staff.
  • Fluency with Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP) and finance regulations and reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Demonstrates competency working with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, etc.).
  • Demonstrates competency with month-end close or full cycle accounting practices.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Demonstrates ability to hire, retain, and motivate a fiscal team capable of meeting organizational objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of accounting/financial management experience in a senior level, supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated mastery of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP).
  • Demonstrated mastery of accounting software systems.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of economic and banking processes.
  • Previous experience with an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant accounting and/or finance certifications (MBA, CPA, CMA)
  • Three (3) years of experience at the director or executive leadership level.
  • Familiarity with SAGE accounting platform or similar systems.
  • Previous experience working in an environment subject to collective bargaining agreements.
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting providing services to a nontraditional client base (i.e., the unhoused, non-native English speakers or other at-risk populations).

Compensation Details:

This is a salary exempt position with target starting base compensation ranging between $83,600 - $104,500/year paid on a bi-weekly basis.
