As a diverse community that values inclusivity and collaboration, we foster a respectful, supportive workplace where innovation comes to life. By looking ahead and experimenting with new approaches, we're creating new educational opportunities to help people thrive in a world of change.
Diversity and respect for all, is a core value of UW Continuum College. We are committed to improving access to education, removing barriers to entry, and viewing our work through an equity lens. We believe our organization is better when diversity of thought, practice, and experiences are not only welcomed but celebrated. We are passionate about creating, and supporting an inclusive working and learning environment for all students, staff, and faculty.
UW Continuum College has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Director of Information Technology!
About the position
Continuum is poised to embark on an ambitious process and technology transformation that will radically redefine our ability to reach and enable learners across Washington and beyond to access the educational attainment they need to thrive. At the center of this transformation is the implementation and support of a range of new student-facing and back-end systems. The position leads four distinct technology functions for Continuum College, including software and application development, data architecture, network and systems administration, and technology support and services. The team currently has three managers and 15 total positions.
This position manages Continuum's Information Technology department's provision of outstanding computing support for an office of 200 employees across a range of platforms. The individual in this role will also regularly coordinate with central UW IT on major university technology initiatives and serve as an advocate for Continuum and its learners.
About you
You thrive in a collaborative, dynamic work environment. You share a passion for Continuum's values: diversity and respect for all, equity and inclusivity, a never-ending pursuit of excellence, integrity, and trust & openness. You model collaborative leadership and effective team building. You work effectively within a cross-departmental team structure to identify and solve complex problems while thoughtfully engaging with key stakeholders.
Functional Responsibilities
  • Own Continuum's technology and digital transformation effort, including identification of new, and evolvement of existing, internal and third-party software and application systems.
  • Partner with UW Office of Information Security to ensure Continuum's data governance, security, and privacy practices are compliant with university requirements.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, in conjunction with UW IT, that balances localized, rapidly evolving Continuum needs with the longer-term university technology roadmap.
  • Uphold and strengthen the culture of service in the provision of effective IT solutions across a range of platforms.
  • Lead Continuum's business continuity and disaster recovery planning and local cybersecurity efforts.
  • Create and track technology budgets and report on cost of system ownership.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion work within Continuum, in partnership with committees, supervisors, consultants, and other leaders to enable all Washingtonians to access the educational attainment they need to thrive.
    Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Manage 4-7 team leads (e.g., software and application development, data architecture, network and systems administration, and technology support and services.)
  • Hire, onboard, mentor staff, provide opportunities for continued learning and skill development to excel in current responsibilities and take on new challenges.
    Qualifications and Skills
We will consider a variety of personal and professional experiences; however, a successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in most areas of responsibility outlined above. Please review them for job requirements.
    Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and 6 years of progressively responsible experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Additional:
  • Directing software or application development efforts
  • Negotiating, reviewing, and executing technology contracts
  • Managing software-as-a-service (SAAS) providers
  • Experience working in organizations with regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA)
    Application Process:
The application process for UW positions may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process. These assessments may include Work Authorization, Cover Letter and/or others. Any assessments that you need to complete will appear on your screen as soon as you select "Apply to this position". Once you begin an assessment, it must be completed at that time; if you do not complete the assessment you will be prompted to do so the next time you access your "My Jobs" page. If you select to take it later, it will appear on your "My Jobs" page to take when you are ready. Please note that your application will not be reviewed, and you will not be considered for this position until all required assessments have been completed.
Committed to attracting and retaining a diverse staff, the University of Washington will honor your experiences, perspectives and unique identity. Together, our community strives to create and maintain working and learning environments that are inclusive, equitable and welcoming.
