The Family Coordinator, reporting and working with Educational Director, will recruit and enroll eligible children, along with ensuring that services and community resources are available to enrolled children and their families. The Family Coordinator works with families to develop a strength-based plan of action to meet their child's needs and will inform neighborhood residents and the community about the services provided by Cortelyou. The Family Coordinator also assists families throughout the eligibility determination and enrollment process to ensure all required documents are completed and filed in program folders.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Increases parent involvement in the school by working closely with all school, parent and community organizations, building supporting relationships, and organizing family involvement to ensure positive outcomes for students and a welcoming environment for parents.
- Convene and attend regular parent meetings and events around topics of key concerns for parents and conduct outreach to maintain their engagement in their child's education.
- Serves as facilitator for parent and school community concerns and issues including, for example, school policies or facilities issues.
- Support families of children with special needs by attending conferences/meetings and develop relationships with community partners who provide support services
- Serve as administrative support for the Educational Director (admissions/enrollment, clerical duties, communications/inquiries, etc.) and serve as the trip/event coordinator (for staff and families).
- Coordinate the effective collection and maintenance of all required records for each program;
- Track budgeted enrollment levels, placement/discharge, and student attendance (+ follow up on recurring absences).
- Assist with monitoring and compliance with DOHMH Article 47 and NYC DOE regulations, including (but not limited to) the timely submission of current medical records in accordance with regulations.
- Serve as a liaison to the various agencies Cortelyou regularly conducts business with (DOE, DOH, etc.)
- Support families with community resources.
- Work cooperatively with administrators, faculty, and parents, maintaining a willingness to learn and grow in a family-oriented environment.
Minimum Selection Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college OR:
- Associate’s degree or its educational equivalent and two years of experience in community work in an area related to the duties described above is preferred.
The following qualifications are also preferred for the position:
- Excellent communication, organizational, time management, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented and ability to multi-task.
- Familiarity with the New York City public school system.
- Experience with convening workshops with families and parents in education and/or community issues.
- Bilingual where there is a significant non-English speaking population.
- Computer Literate: Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.), Google Drive, and Zoom.
