The Advanced Pastoral and Ministerial Leadership Studies Field of Moody Theological Seminary seeks to appoint a full-time faculty member to its Chicago campus in preparation for the 2023-2024 academic year who is experienced and skilled in homiletics, pastoral ministry, and advanced ministry studies (DMin program). This faculty member must be committed to an approach to pastoral studies that is shaped by biblically informed theological reflection and cultural exegesis. The successful candidate will possess a high degree of cultural intelligence and demonstrate an ability to interpret their own cultural context and that of others. Preferred candidates should demonstrate a creative and highly motivated team member who enjoys collaboration, deliberation, and program development. The ideal candidate possesses a terminal degree and has a recognized platform in print and electronic media.
Teaching responsibilities will consist of 9 hours per semester (with administrative course load reduction for serving as the DMin Program Coordinator) and lie mainly in the seminary (graduate school) on-campus (in person and hyflex) and online. The primary focus is teaching at the doctoral level and master’s level but having the ability to teach at the undergraduate level would be an asset. Administrative responsibilities include the coordination of the DMin program of the seminary in Chicago, Michigan, and online. Primary teaching needs include courses specifically in applied theology and pastoral studies and all of the courses in our homiletic sequence in both the doctoral and master’s level programs. Also expected is an eagerness to supervise students and perform faculty service, and enthusiasm for MBI/MTS’s mission and theological commitments. Experience in program coordination, administering a center for advances studies, along with curriculum development is a plus.
Essential Functions

- Show commitment to transformational learning and the development of the whole student, demonstrated through a dedication to biblical-centered teaching and learning, supervising, and advising.
- Prepare syllabi and teach students in assigned courses following faculty approved course learning objectives, including promptness in submission of grades, reports, and other required information housed in our learning management system Canvas.
- Coordinate communication between students, DMin teachers, and offices such as Admissions, Academic Records, Financial Aid, and Student Life.
- Manage the DMin entrance, proposal, candidacy, and final project evaluation process, ensuring adherence to established policies and systems.
- Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote and support DMin program.
- Ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the DMin department, including coordinating schedules with field chair, managing administrative tasks, and overseeing adjunct faculty and administrative support.
- Organize courses, events, and continuing education opportunities to promote the DMin program.
- Assist with the planning, evaluation, and implementation of DMin initiatives (new and existing)
- Maintain accurate information for accrediting bodies and oversee the DMin website’s content.
- Assist the field chair with the development and maintenance of the DMin degree program and new emphases, by participating in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a program assessment plan, and by implementing changes in those programs.
- Provide the field chair with professional goals and objectives for the annual performance review.
- Attend designated chapels and events, eat meals with students in the Student Dining Room and engage in informal time with students as opportunity permits, in order to further the sense of community, shared values and experiences.
- Be engaged in professional development, scholarship, and research appropriate to their primary discipline and in the scholarship of teaching and DMin education practices including supervision of DMin students/projects (including membership in the appropriate scholarly guilds, EHS and ADME).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Terminal degree (Ph.D., Th.D., D.Min., Ed.D.) with a Master of Divinity and significant experience in pastoral ministry.
- Consideration will be given to candidates in the Doctoral Dissertation writing process.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to the Christian faith and a desire to integrate faith into all aspects of teaching.
- Member in good standing of a Bible-believing, Evangelical church
- Desire to grow in their spiritual lives and develop as mentors of students.

Preferred Requirements
- Academic doctoral degree in Christian Ministry, Practical Theology, Ministry Leadership, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college, seminary, or university.
- 5 years of effective ministry experience
- 3 years of effective experience coordinating adjunct educational activities (center for education or other grant-based co-educational embedded programs).
