DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Facilities Department is a team of over 80 employees responsible for the safety, security, maintenance, and cleanliness of the Centers’ ten locations throughout the Los Angeles area. These facilities cover a wide variety of uses including medical facilities, residential facilities, community rooms, theatres, offices, industrial kitchens, and a coffee shop. The Facilities Department is a great team with hardworking people who enjoy maintaining a wonderful atmosphere for clients and staff who are looking for a community to belong to.
JOB SUMMARY: Under the directions of both the Associate Director of Facilities and the Associate Director of Safety and Security, this position will be responsible for night-time leadership of the facilities and security teams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Incident Leader for emergencies that happen during shift.
- Routine Building Inspections for work completion, safety, items other as directed.
- In conjunction with the daytime managers in Security and Maintenance, manage nighttime personnel including coaching counseling, terminations, investigations, training, evaluations, and completion of work while following union standards.
- Manage nighttime supervisors, reporting any issues to the appropriate parties.
- Fill in for night supervisors if they are absent.
- Check in with other departments that work nights.
- Manage night-time contractors and projects.
- Handle nighttime maintenance issues or determine whether technicians need to be called in or if the issue can wait until morning.
- Manage janitorial and security needs for nighttime events.
- Manage interactions with external emergency services (ambulance, fire department, police department).
- Investigate safety incidents during shift.
- Write nightly report to daytime management team.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
- A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
- Minimum 6 years of property and security experience with an emphasis on people management skills.
- Excellent people skills in interfacing with staff and contractors.
- An adaptable mindset focused on providing answers and solutions to difficult problems.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for a commercial environment.
- Strong organizational skills, including superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have the ability to handle a heavy workload of many diverse requests calmly and professionally.
- Ability to work cooperatively with many departments, clients, and other agency staff members.
- Proficient computer knowledge required; MS Office Suite, Work Management System, and the aptitude to learn other complex software programs.
- Access to reliable transportation and the ability to be insured.
- Ability to make decisions independently and quickly in emergencies.
- Experience managing Union employees preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
