If so, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for a Maintenance Mechanic 3, this is a Lead position for our Facilities Maintenance program.
This position is located at the DNR Tumwater Compound which consists of an office building, warehouse, and fleet-fabrication shop. At times, the incumbent provides support to other DNR locations. The facilities program inspects, plans, schedules, and performs hands-on skilled journey-level repairs and improvements to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for agency staff. You will lead a team and work independently, implementing all aspects of your facility maintenance-construction knowledge and skills.
To be successful in this position you will need to have a working understanding of facility maintenance, HVAC systems, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, cabinetry, drywall, painting, flooring, building exterior systems, and landscape maintenance. This position will represent the Facilities Program when working with tenants on workspaces and will need to demonstrate proactive customer service capabilities; and possess the ability to clearly communicate and organize workload. Duties
Responsibilities:
  • Use of PC, Work Order management system, and other job-related computer software programs. (i.e. Outlook, Adobe, Word).
  • Ability to lead others, assign work, and monitor progress, and quality.
  • Perform skilled journey-level repairs and maintenance to buildings.
  • Knowledge of Facilities Maintenance on HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Implement work orders; determine the scope of work, materials needed, and estimate time - schedule to complete.
  • Orders materials and maintains an adequate inventory of required materials to carry on shop or maintenance work.
  • Troubleshoot building systems to establish repairs, adjustments, and modifications to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Inspection and use of ladders, hand tools, wood shop equipment, power equipment, gas-powered equipment, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), lifts, vehicles, and trailers.
  • Perform repairs to interior finishes such as drywall, paint, flooring, cabinetry, doors, windows, and millwork.
  • Ability to work in all types of inclement weather.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet facilities needs.
  • Maintain health and safety standards while leading staff.
  • Oversee vendors and contractors and inspect work.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum two years of experience as a skilled journey-level worker in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship may substitute for 1 year's experience.
  • Experience working under/with Washington State Building Codes (SBC), and other applicable federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and guidelines, including ADA, OSHA, WISHA, L&I, and state trade worker licensure/certification regulations.
  • Communication- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
  • Professionalism and Integrity.
  • Maintenance Assessment Skills- Ability to evaluate maintenance needs and prepare accurate estimates of labor and materials needed.
  • Construction Design- Ability to prepare and interpret construction-related drawings, plans, technical specifications, and documents relating to Facilities Maintenance and construction activities.
  • Must have, maintain, and be able to apply a high level of knowledge relating to construction means and methods, and demonstrated experience planning, scheduling, performing, and inspecting maintenance and construction-related activities.
  • Working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Word and Outlook, web-based programs, and facility management software and applications.

Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment:
  • Work Setting: Field approximately 80%, shop/office 20%. Ability to work on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
  • Travel Requirements: Ability to travel around the state with some overnight stays.
  • A valid unrestricted driver's license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function. Finalists and/or interview candidates will be asked to provide a driving record from all states in which they have held a license during the past three years.
  • Incumbent may be requested to acquire additional licenses or certifications during the course of employment.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in Hazardous Waste Management.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Understanding and experience with common governmental contracting and procurement methods including public works.
