About Travel Oregon
Do you have a passion for Oregon, along with an appreciation for the unpredictable and somewhat maverick nature of this place we call home? Working for Travel Oregon is more than a job. It is a life less ordinary, an eternal quest to share the next farm-to-table meal, powdery slope, coastal sunrise, or cultural experience. Our mission is to inspire travel that uplifts Oregon communities. We work with our communities to be stewards of Oregon. We work to optimize economic opportunity, advance equity, and respect the ecosystems, cultures, and places that make Oregon ... Oregon.
About This Role
At Travel Oregon, the Executive Office and Commission Manager serves as a trusted confidential advisor to the CEO and Chief of Staff, and a vital liaison to the prestigious Oregon Tourism Commission. Using a visionary approach, the person in this role not only develops and manages the commission but also strategically enhances key relationships to propel the Chief Executive Office to new heights.
Engaging with the Governor's Office, agency heads, legislators, and national industry leaders, the Executive Office and Commission Manager meticulously manages Commission meetings, crafts compelling CEO communications and presentations and anticipates information needs, responding with independent judgment to elevate the Chief Executive Office's operations and overall impact.
Essential Duties
- Manage the Oregon Tourism Commission with a focus on effective operations, statutory compliance, and strategic engagement in the travel and tourism industry.
- Cultivate and manage internal/external relationships with key stakeholders, including the Governor's office, congressional offices, policymakers, and industry leaders.
- Develop and implement individualized Commission engagement plans, oversee annual meetings, and manage the development of strategic progress reports.
- Design and implement Commission onboarding and training processes.
- Support CEO's office administration by managing communications, guiding cross-functional projects, and aiding in strategic planning and budgeting.
- Maintain records of meetings, support event planning, and represent the agency as needed.
- Manage administrative rules, policies, and compliance, including public records and state reporting requirements.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in business or nonprofit management, political science, communications or a related field OR any combination of education/coursework/training and work experience necessary to meet position requirements.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in supporting a CEO and/or commission/board of directors; experience must include responsibility for meeting facilitation/management and working with diverse groups, partners, and constituents.
- Experience applying principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion to interactions and communications across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Strong facilitation skills for diverse groups, experience in supporting culture and change management initiatives, and a demonstrated ability to apply organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills with tact, leadership, sensitivity, and teamwork.
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining professional relationships and representing the organization at senior levels.
- Valued: Experience working in Tourism/Policy/Economic Development/Community Development/Media Relations or Legislative Affairs.
- Valued: Working knowledge of the legislative and political processes in Oregon with experience in reading, analyzing, and interpreting legal or legislative documents.
About Our Work Environment

Our employees working in roles designated as hybrid or remote must reside in Oregon or the Portland Metro area. Overnight travel, up to 20% of work time, is required in this position.
Travel Oregon offers flexible schedules and telecommuting arrangements that meet the needs of the agency and our staff while aiming to balance that flexibility with the value of in-person collaboration that best serves our mission. As a semi-independent state agency, we feel strongly about cultivating and nurturing strong relationships, both across our workforce and with our many partners and stakeholders throughout the state
