The Role of the Executive Director

The Executive Director (ED) is the visible and active leader of the Hispanic League and has major responsibility for the direction, management, accountability, and sustainability of the organization. The ED is dedicated and committed to the Hispanic/Latino community’s needs and in turn the organization’s vision, mission, and goals. They are responsible for working with the organization’s stakeholders (board, staff, volunteers, partners, donors, etc.) and the community to fulfill those goals strategically and operationally. The ED represents the Hispanic League and the Hispanic community throughout the community and through positions on community task forces and advisory boards. The position reports to the Board of Directors.

Hours: Full time, salaried, exempt position

Salary: Commensurate with experience

About the Hispanic League

The Hispanic League is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Hispanic/Latinos through promoting community inclusion, education, health, and multicultural understanding. Recently celebrating its 30-year anniversary, The Hispanic League has worked to serve the needs of the Hispanic/Latino community in the Piedmont Triad Region of North Carolina since 1992 by hosting premier cultural festivals and events, donating over $1.5M in scholarships to Forsyth County students pursuing college, and working with 60+ community partner organization, local businesses, and foundations to broaden its impact. The organization currently operates in a hybrid environment and is physically located in Winston-Salem, NC where it will move into its permanent facilities in the new Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness in 2023.

Note: The Hispanic/Latino community in Forsyth County currently represents 13% of the population (according to the 2020 census) and 29% of local school district students.

Qualifications:

· Proficient in oral and written English and Spanish

· Knowledge of nonprofit and community organizations with a strong understanding of nonprofit leadership, financial management, fundraising, partnership development, policies, and working with and cultivating relationships gained through experience on management teams or nonprofit boards

· Strong ties to and engagement within Forsyth County

· Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills; strong presentation skills

· Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures

· Proficient in Microsoft Office or Google Suite, social media platforms, Quickbooks, SALSA (CRM), with the ability to adopt new technologies as necessary

· Ability to facilitate a healthy organizational structure, and recruit, grow, and lead staff and volunteers to achieve mission/vision

· Ability to work outside 9-5 pm hours when necessary for critical events and community engagement

 

Responsibilities:

· Board Engagement, Administration, and Support - Support the operations and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board members of critical information in a timely manner

· Staff Management – Oversee, supervise, and empower staff to fulfill their respective responsibilities in relation to Hispanic League operations. Ensure staff have necessary resources, growth opportunities, and professional development.

· Program, Event, and Service Delivery - Give vision and leadership to the strategic and day-to-day program implementation of the Hispanic League. Oversee design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs, events, and services with a focus on innovation and doing things differently when needed. Ensure program investments have critical return on investment.

· Financial, Tax, Risk and Facilities Management - Work with Finance Committee to recommend yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manage organization's resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations. Manage the Hispanic League accounting records, audit, and meet NC financial and licensing requirements in collaboration with the Hispanic League Treasurer.

· Community and Public Relations - Proactively and strategically ensure awareness of the Hispanic League and the needs of Hispanic/Latinos in the communities the Hispanic League serves. Assure the organization and its mission, programs, products, and services value are consistently presented in the strongest, most positive image to relevant stakeholders.

o Actively engage the Hispanic/Latino community in order to understand their needs and engage them in membership, volunteerism, and spreading the word about Hispanic League supports and activities

o Actively recruit, engage, and energize Hispanic League volunteers, board members, event committees, partner organizations, and funders

o Guide the Hispanic League in responding to emerging issues in the Piedmont Triad, with a lens of racial equity

o Serve on applicable task forces and advisory boards to ensure the Hispanic/Latino community’s needs and voices are considered in key community decision making and investments

o Ensure strategic and consistent bilingual marketing and communications materials are clearly positioning the Hispanic League and creating desired engagement

· Fundraising (nonprofit-specific) - Oversee fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals, and administrating fundraising records and documentation. Develop long-term relationships with individual, organizational, and foundation donors/supporters with clear and diverse propositions for their support.
