New Bern Historical Society Executive Director
Summary of Duties: Executive Director is the chief executive officer and administrator of the New Bern Historical Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with over 1300 members, a robust calendar of historical programs and events, and several historic properties. Start date May 1 , 2024.
Key Functions:
- Manage the historic Attmore-Oliver House campus and Battlefield Park
- Direct educational programs and fundraising events
- Supervise staff of three
- Lead and motivate volunteer force of over 600
- Develop and grow membership of over 1300
- Oversee publications and scholarships
- Financial development including sponsorships, budgets, grants, and campaigns
- General bookkeeping
- Manage website and social media
- Liaison with board of directors, members, staff, and community
Required Job Skills:
- Strong leadership skills; leads by example
- Strong program manager
- Financial management experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills
Soft Skills:
- Passion for Historical Society mission
- Strong people skills -- able to relate well with members, volunteers, board members, and guests. Tactful and courteous under pressure.
- Able to motivate a diverse group of volunteers
- Willing to work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
- Strong communication and writing skills
- Collaborative worker on a small team where all employees assist each other outside defined roles
- Creative and energetic, flexible and adaptable to change
