Job Description


Position Overview:
The Head, Product Portfolio & Strategy Office (PPSO) will report to the SVP of the organization and will serve as a key business partner immersed in strategic and operational elements of the PP&S Organization which includes: Program Strategy Leadership (PSL), Portfolio Strategy & Analytics (PS&A) Global Program Management Office (GPM), & ProgramTeam Systems Office. The selected incumbent will lead, coach, and develop members of the Team Systems Office.
The leader of PPSO will have two sets of responsibilities that will be closely connected. One as the Chief of Staff for the SVP of PP&S and the leadership team, and one in the capacity of leading the Program Team Systems Office. Together these will include a wide sphere of influence to maximize Product Portfolio strategy and operation, the effectiveness and the interdependency of functions within PPS as a whole, as well as team effectiveness across the drug development functions and lifecycle from early stage to commercial launch and beyond. S/he will be accountable for advancing or developing principles, practices, and metrics for continual evolution of our team system and will provide guidance to our leaders on how we can work with greater agility to make high quality decisions and execute on our plans to drive Gilead's portfolio success. In addition, s/he will take a lead role in driving large projects within the business, supporting insight and access to the organizational strategy and direction.
KeyResponsibilities:
Serve as Chief of Staff for the SVP & PP&S leadership team:
  • Drive PP&S goals/initiatives, track deliverables, and present on progress
  • Lead PSS Leadership team meeting, managing meeting cadence and tracking updates as a result of meeting outcomes
  • Manage PP&S departmental communications including, but not limited to Townhall meetings, PP&S intranet website
  • Build strong rapport and network with CoS counterparts in other functions
  • Manage PP&S calendar of events and deliverables (including integrating it with the corporate calendar)
  • Manage overall PP&S budget
  • Within PP&S, foster strong connectivity and partnerships amongst the groups and build upon interdependencies
  • Champion PP&S mission and vision enhance the brand of the organization with our internal and external partners

Lead the Program Team Systems Office:
  • Develop and/or evolve menu and approach to service offerings for what the organization needs today measure and adapt for future business needs
  • Develop team effectiveness solutions and provide performance optimization advice and/or coaching and motivating directly or through others (internal trained coaches or referrals to appropriate external coaches) especially in areas such as agile leadership, influencing, team contribution skill building, productive debate, decision quality, team dynamic interventions such as conflict management.
  • Collaborate with PP&S leaders and cross functional partners to ensure the training, process and capabilities are in place to: build upon Program Team Systems vision and strategy; identify critical path activities and resources; establish expectations; identify/document risks and key mitigations to ensure success of program operations.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Partner with Development and Commercial Therapeutic Area Leaders, the CMO and CCO to support teams including building a talent bench for team leadership roles
  • Drive close alignment among research, development, and commercial groups which have internal-to-the-function teams within the overall Program Team System
  • Participate in hiring panels for new Program Strategy Leaders, Global Development Leaders, Commercial Team Leaders, and Project Managers

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree with 16+ years or Master's Degree/PhD with 14+ years of program management operations / product strategy leadership experience, or related experience within the biopharma industry
  • Previous experience within Development and/or Commercial organizations
  • Demonstrated strong executive presence and diplomacy
  • Proven leadership skills and deep expertise in agile teams and innovation team effectiveness. Truly understand the benefits of departmental and team-based work and able to communicate this understanding with passion to others.
  • Highly collaborative instincts and a track record of resolving conflicts with others
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clinical scientists, biologists, manufacturing experts, as well as with regulatory and commercial colleagues at all levels of the organization
  • High degree of organizational awareness and understanding of change management and leading innovation
  • Highly resourceful and strategic thinker with strong emotional intelligence, operational rigor and project management capabilities
  • Strong leadership and communication skills across functions and leadership teams; comfort in business and technical discussions; able to influence without direct authority

The salary range for this position is: $255,425.00 - $330,550.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
