EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR PACIFIC YOUTH CHOIR
Salary: $80,000-$100,000 commensurate with experience
Full-time, salaried position with 11 paid holidays, 3 weeks vacation and health care benefits. Variable hybrid work schedule and environment, which includes flexible M-F business hours and evening and weekend in-person commitments.
ABOUT PACIFIC YOUTH CHOIR
Started in 2003, PYC is known for the caliber of our music and the professionalism of our students. In recent years, PYC has performed at the American Choral Directors Association regional and national conferences, the Chanticleer Festival, the Eric Whitacre festival, and regularly appears on performances with the Oregon Symphony and Pink Martini. Pacific Youth Choir (PYC) has presented North American premieres and new commissions by contemporary composers.
Our mission is to change lives through high level choral artistry in an open, joyful, and nurturing environment. Through practice, performance, and education singers build their skills and emerge as confident young adults with a lifelong love of music. PYC strives to inspire audiences as they work together to create musical excellence.

THE LIFE OF PYC'S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Executive Director is the Pacific Youth Choir's (PYC) chief executive officer who will serve as a strategic partner to the Artistic Director. Reporting directly to the board of directors, the Executive Director will generate diversified portfolios of earned and contributed revenue and develop engaging marketing and fundraising strategies. The Executive Director will be a relationship builder, long-term planner, and management strategist, able to operationalize the Artistic Director's vision and produce the resources, organizational structures, and institutional visibility necessary to achieve it.
The Executive Director will delight in youth choral music, education and performance, and be able to share this enthusiasm with stakeholders, funders, partners, families, and the local community. They will be an effective storyteller able to articulate a compelling case for supporting PYC's programs, choristers, and impact.
Job Responsibilities:
Fundraising, Marketing, Public Relations and Advocacy
- Cultivate donor relationships to secure financial support.
- Develop and implement annual and multi-year fundraising plans to increase support for operations, programs, and board approved initiatives, including an individual donor program, grant proposals and reporting, and corporate, foundational, and other organizational sponsors and funders.
- Serve as the spokesperson for PYC to the public, media, and the broader arts community.
- Manage the marketing and communication efforts for PYC.
- Work with the appropriate board committees to ensure effective coordination of messaging, outreach strategies, and community engagement efforts.
Governance
- Guide the board, staff, and members in building a culture of philanthropy, developing strategies and defining key messages to ensure that revenues meet organizational goals.
- Communicate proactively and regularly with the board, providing concise, relevant, and timely information so that it can fulfill its policy, fiduciary, and decision-making responsibilities.
- Identify, cultivate, and assist in the recruitment of board members whose skills, experience, financial connections, and diversity meet PYC's needs and can advance its purposes.
Fiscal and Organizational Management
- Serve as the organization's chief financial officer, leveraging efficient and modern financial instruments to monitor and report on financial performance.
- Ensure organizational and fiscal policies, systems, controls, and procedures are in alignment with PYC's mission, and are regularly reviewed for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Recruit, support, evaluate, and mentor the highest quality staff and contractors to support PYC's short- and long-term goals and programmatic needs.
- Coordinate with the Governance and Operations Committee to develop, maintain and implement financial control policies, regularly review financial statements and execute an annual audit or financial review.
- Develop annual budget for Board approval in collaboration with the Artistic Director and the Governance and Operations Committee.
- Oversee all legal issues, contracts and other negotiations for the organization.
Strategic Leadership
- Actively engage and collaborate with the PYC Artistic Director.
- Develop and execute annual and multi-year work plans with the board and staff to achieve strategic goals and priorities.
- Lead and manage PYC with a demonstrated commitment to PYC's mission and vision.
Additional responsibilities:
- Stay abreast of developments in human resources management and ensure policy and operational compliance with local, state, and federal labor laws.
- Plan and organize PYC events and concerts in collaboration with the Artistic Director.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Demonstrated success in the areas of fundraising, external relations, operations and financial management.
- Knowledge of the Portland, OR metro area arts ecosystem, choral music community, and philanthropic landscape.
- Commitment to PYC's mission and vision, dedicated to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for youth and all stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to speak persuasively about PYC's mission and work.
- Visionary, culturally inclusive, entrepreneurial and strategic thinker.
- Progressively responsible management experience in the nonprofit sector.
- Excellent time management skills
- Adept computer and technology skills, including fluency with customer relationship management databases to effectively supervise the CRM process.
- Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A keen understanding of the unique operating environment of a youth music organization.
- Knowledge of trends and best practices in the performing arts and nonprofit management.
- Master's degree or equivalent experience in management, the performing arts, or a related field.
