Job description

SUMMARY

The Executive Director shall have the administrative, supervisory and program responsibilities for the entire agency. Serves as the Chief Executive Officer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Shall report to the LKLP Board of Directors on a bi-monthly basis and as required otherwise.

Shall provide monthly and quarterly reports on overall fiscal and program activities to the Board of Directors.

Shall be responsible for any reports required by the special conditions of program grants and state and federal funding entities.

Shall serve as chief liaison to all funding and governmental entities.

Shall serve as the staff advisor to the LKLP Board of Directors and the Executive Committee meetings, as well as all other standing committee meetings of the Board.

Shall serve as the ex officio staff advisor to all LKLP and delegate agency boards, and whenever desirable, delegate staff advisory responsibilities.

Shall hold regular and frequent staff meetings with various program components.

Shall supervise the overall fiscal and program management of LKLP, its delegate agencies and sub grantees.

Shall direct the development and implementation in an orderly internal management and reporting system, allowing for continuous flow of information, services and resources among the offices and between LKLP and other agencies.

Shall serve as the designated agent for carrying out the business of the LKLP Corporation.

Shall direct daily activities of the agency and/or delegate fiscal and program responsibilities to staff.

Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps and motivates a diverse staff of top-quality people.

Shall direct the development and implementation of a planning procedure reflective of agency priorities and goals.

Shall provide leadership in the development and implementation of existing and new program ideas.

Shall provide leadership in assisting staff to coordinate program and planning activities with local, state and federal agencies.

Shall represent LKLP at all meetings where decisions are/or votes are necessary, while delegating the responsibilities of attending to other staff as necessary.

Ability to maintain poise and self-control in crisis situations.

Ability to communicate with and be sensitive to the needs of people of various backgrounds.

Exhibits excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.

Ability to focus and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other agencies and to be cooperative in managing referrals.

Makes good use of time and acts professionally and responsibly in all work areas.

Capable of being able to maintain a professional relationship with all entities of people (staff, Board Members, officials, and the general public).

Perform other duties as directed by the Board of Directors.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Shall have the overall responsibility for fiscal and program management and all personnel employed in all LKLP component programs and sub grantee programs of LKLP. The Executive Director shall have the primary responsibility for the direct supervision for the following personnel: Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief of Staff, Director of Compliance, and Human Resources Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other qualifications required include the ability to interact well with others, work in a high stress environment, work in a fast-pace environment, have the ability to prioritize and multi-task, be able to resolve interpersonal conflicts and have the ability to work with difficult clients.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university is required in business administration, public administration, human services, or related field. A minimum of five years’ executive or non-profit leadership experience is required. Administrative experience and a strong understanding of Community Action Agencies, government operations, and federally funded programs is preferred. Master’s Degree or comparable experience is highly preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess their Certified Community Action Professional credential or commit to obtaining it within three years of employment. Valid Ky Driver’s License. Required to receive all certifications, licensing and registrations, as required by the LKLP Board of Directors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed primarily in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

Professional and effective communication skills are required. Must be able to meet deadlines.

Frequent travel is required in and out of the service area including overnight stays.

Excellent communication skills, organizational skills and leadership ability are musts.

Must be able to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
