Position Summary
Aging with Dignity (AWD) is a national nonprofit 501c3 organization with a mission to safeguard the God-given human dignity of the most vulnerable among us. It is America’s premier guide for end-of-life care and maintaining human dignity. AWD’s Five Wishes advance care planning program has more than 42 million users around the world, is available in 32 languages, and is distributed by 10,000 organizations.
The mission of AWD was inspired by the life and work of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, specifically her legacy of love, compassion, and concern for the least among us. AWD’s advocacy efforts put humans first and oppose the dehumanizing effects of assisted suicide (AS) and some artificial intelligence (AI) applications in health and long-term care.
The Executive Assistant will work from AWD’s office in Falls Church, VA, and coordinate activities with AWD’s Florida office.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide support to the CEO and Vice President of Advocacy, including scheduling meetings, phone calls, travel arrangements and event coordination
- General administrative duties, including drafting communications, managing mailings, professional correspondence by phone and email, preparing reports and maintaining appropriate filing systems
- Office management duties, including ordering supplies, troubleshooting technology problems and coordinating with outside vendors for services/repairs
- Assist with research in support of AWD programs as requested by the CEO or VP of Advocacy
- Coordinate with colleagues at AWD’s Florida office as required
- Special projects and other tasks as assigned
Skills & Experience
- Passionate commitment to AWD’s faith-based mission, core beliefs, and strategic direction is mandatory
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Demonstrated experience working in a professional office environment and ability to interact at a professional level with colleagues and external contacts
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and balance competing priorities
- Awareness of matters that require discretion and respect of confidentiality
- Takes initiative, demonstrates creativity, personable and has a high level of professionalism
- Comfort working independently, as well as part of a team
- Technological proficiency required in the Microsoft suite of programs or Microsoft 365
- Ability to lift packages, occasionally up to 30 pounds, and transport packages to a drop-off destination such as FedEx or US Post Office
Reporting
The Executive Assistant reports directly to the CEO and also supports the work of the VP of Advocacy.
