Nevada State University invites applications for the dynamic position of Event Manager. Reporting to the Associate Director of Events and Event Services, the Event Manager exists to support the Associate Director with the planning and coordination of signature events, lead the successful planning and execution of student and external group events, and support broader campus events. This position will oversee risk management components on behalf of all events, develop emergency operations plans, think through potential safety concerns and mitigation efforts, screen vendors by obtaining and reviewing licenses and other required documentation, and work with the Event Coordinator to secure permits all while working with multiple agencies including but not limited to Fire & Life Safety, Risk Management, and University Police. The Marketing department builds and elevates the university and brand by providing quality marketing and events to benefit internal and external communities, including the greater Henderson area, Nevada, and the West.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Support Associate Director with signature events by serving on planning committees and providing on-site event support.
- Oversee risk & compliance for university events including:
- Review event plans and diagrams to determine required permits.
- Supervise and work with Event Coordinator to secure permits via fire & life safety for events, tents & membrane structures, outdoor assembly, mobile food vendors, and any other permits as required by the State Fire Marshal.
- Ensure Facilities Use Agreements are completed for external clients, vendors, sponsors, and community partners participating at an on-campus event.
- Work with the Event Coordinator on collecting information, reviewing certificates of insurance, and fully executing contracts with the Finance & Business Operations Office's approval.
- Manage external group event requests, logistics and planning including:
- Review and approve requests, communicate details and procedures to stakeholders & partners
- Design diagrams within code per state fire marshal
- Work with the Event Coordinator on submitting permits and generating facilities use agreements
- Serve as vendor POC, manage volunteers, and provide on-site event support.
- Manage planning and logistics for student organization events including:
- Collaborate with the Event Coordinator, NSSA and student clubs & orgs, reviewing requests, communicating details and procedures to stakeholders & partners
- Design diagrams within code per state fire marshal
- Work with the Event Coordinator to submit permits Serve as vendor POC, manage volunteers, and provide on-site event support.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, hospitality, event planning, communications, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Two years of experience in an event-related area.
- One year of supervisory experience required, preferably in a customer service setting.
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines
- Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by a background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.
- Highly developed organizational and leadership skills. Effective interpersonal skills to ensure good working relationships.
- Flexible availability to work occasional early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.
- Experience with technology including room scheduling software, room diagramming software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in planning and executing successful and higher education events within defined budgetary and programmatic guidelines.
- Experience in tracking the inventory and maintenance of event equipment and supplies.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of experience in higher education in an event-related area.
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in special events.
- Facility scheduling/coordination experience. Experience with 25Live room scheduling software, Social Tables room diagramming software and Canva.
Salary & Benefits
Budgeted salary for this position is $65,000. Nevada State University offers excellent benefits, including 17.50% retirement match, 24 annual leave days, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 12 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
