Amani Affairs is looking to bring on board talented, enthusiastic, sophisticated individuals that are looking to work with us in helping to bring to life our client’s event plans while gaining some industry experience. The position of Event Assistant (EA) is part-time and offers you a great opportunity to see how a wedding day is carried out. The idea of someone taking on this position should not be for financial gain, but rather to acquire hands-on wedding & event experience and a taste of the events industry. It also gives us the chance to see if you have what Amani Affairs is looking for in our future employees.
This position would require an average of 10-12 hours per event on nights, weekends & sometimes weekdays and be on an as-needed basis. Some months, there would be no events, other months could have 2-3 events. The EA would be given at least one month’s notice of days available & needed. The pay is $200 per event, with an opportunity for an increase, and occasionally, tips. Our 2024 events begin in May.
We are not hiring other positions currently; however, we most often fill these positions with our most promising Interns & Event Assistants. If the EA seems like a good fit with Amani Affairs and the candidate proves that they are the best candidate for the job, they may move up within the company.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Assist and/or oversee with the correct set-up of the event
- Assist and/or oversee the breakdown of the event, including décor, gifts, florals, clothing, etc.
- Ensure that vendors and clients stay on schedule throughout the event
- Ensure all details are correct
- Assist vendors, as needed, throughout event day, during setup, the event, and breakdown
- Assist with all “behind-the-scenes” work required for a successful event
- Serve as venue & vendor liaison for clients throughout the event
- Direct guests to appropriate areas as needed throughout the event
- Solve complaints and service issues
- Be available to event guests to answer any questions and assist them, as needed
- Assist with cleaning & tidying up throughout, this may include collecting trash, re-supplying the bathroom, sweeping, mopping spills, adjusting décor, etc.
- Serve as wedding party concierge throughout the wedding day
- Assist with social media posting during events.
Requirements
- Experience in hospitality, retail, or event management
- Demonstrates high standards of professionalism, discretion, confidentiality, and kindness
- Customer service experience
- Strong verbal & written communication skills
- Friendly, confident demeanor
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Highly creative with an eye for design
- Self-starter, flexible, hard-working
- Team-player who is willing to assist with any task in order to “get the job done”
- Ability to take direction well & juggle more than one task at a time
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude in stressful situations
- Ability to lift 20 pounds
- Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle
