Summary:The purpose of this position is to offer support to classroom teachers by providing instructional training and coaching to ensure development of quality instruction to assist children who do not master reading skills from tier I instruction. The Academic Coach will support and assist teachers by providing leadership in the implementation of district curriculum with an emphasis in academic intervention and enrichment. The Coach will work closely with teachers and the principal to interpret data and help develop programs that directly relate to increasing student achievement through three distinct levels of intervention.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works closely with school site administrator to provide effective mentoring and instructional improvement through planning, and coordination, of instructional academic programs and services which directly support and sustain the District's comprehensive school site reform initiatives.
- Establishes and maintains norms of behavior for professional interactions.
- Visits classrooms on a regular basis. Conducts a reflective conversation with teachers observed.
- Models effective instructional strategies
- Follows the Model for Successful Instructional Coaching.
- Develops and supports data driven instructional initiatives
- Facilitates regular meetings with grade levels or departments to cover a variety of topics such as: Analyzing Data, Increasing Engagement, Discussion Techniques, Higher Level Thinking Questions, etc.
- Plans/creates agendas and keeps documentation from such meetings.
- Mentors and supports teachers with the Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching Evaluation Instrument.
- Works closely with site administrators to address school wide instructional issues through the planning and delivery of professional development training sessions for small groups, entire staff, or district wide.
- May serve as testing coordinator for assessments.
- Coordinates benchmark assessments and educates/mentors teachers on using benchmark data to plan for and deliver differentiated instruction
- Assists in preparing student achievement data reports, and records required for the administration of the school and District
- Assists with the development, implementation and evaluation of instructional improvement program curriculum in accordance with the Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards and SESD mission and vision
- Assists with assuring vertical as well as horizontal articulation of the curriculum using the scope and sequence designed within the core curriculum
- Assists with evaluating the effectiveness of the curriculum and instruction with respect to quality (evidence-based research), fidelity, intensity, and consistency throughout all grade levels and recommend instructional changes as appropriate
- Performs other work duties as assigned
To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. Verification of these required qualifications is necessary.
- Valid Arizona teaching credential
- Masters in Education or related field
- Minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience that includes providing reading instruction and intervention to children
- Extensive training in the implementation of research-based reading and mathematics programs
- Ability to evaluate programs and report on effectiveness data. Ability to meet multiple deadlines and to plan and coordinate the work of multiple groups of people
- Relentless drive to attain results: proven experience and effectiveness in improving student achievement in the classroom and/or school.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
