JOB TITLE: LANGUAGE ACQUISITION ACADEMIC COACH (DISTRICT)
REPORTS TO: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION
CALENDAR: TEACHER CALENDAR (may have extended year)
RANGE: TEACHER SALARY SCHEDULE PLUS STIPEND
Job Goal
The Academic Coach is a content expert, instructional leader, and professional development instructor. The Academic Coach is flexible and adaptable with a high degree of organization, facilitation, and management.
Minimum Qualifications
- Highly qualified in designated content areas
- Master's degree in education related field
- Knowledge of World and Native Language state standards
- Knowledge of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Proficiency Guidelines and Performance Indicators
- Knowledge of Dual Language Immersion (DLI) core competencies and fidelity assurances
- Knowledge of performance and proficiency assessments
- Knowledge of DLI programming best practices
- Knowledge of research-based language instructional practices and Language Acquisition
- Knowledge of target language intercultural competencies
- Demonstrated classroom teaching ability
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Demonstrated experience with language learners
Core Job Functions
- Utilize content and instructional expertise to achieve the goals of the District's strategic plan
- Develop and facilitate professional development aligned with research-based practices including dual language, world languages and fidelity assurances
- Develop and facilitate presentations as assigned (e.g. board meetings, leadership meetings, department meetings)
- Provide support for PreK-12 language programs in the district
- Keep abreast of and interpret current research, curriculum development, and instructional strategies
- Develop curriculum and facilitate curriculum writing
- Communicate effectively in different settings
- Collaborate with other departments and coaches to ensure academic achievement and increase learning opportunities for all students (e.g. curriculum, special education, federal programs, assessment, professional development)
- Provide ongoing support to teachers in curriculum implementation
- Serve as a liaison for state and national educational organizations
- Support program development and expansion
- Build content, instruction, and assessment capacity at school sites
- Work effectively with principals and teachers in improving site instructional programs
- Model research-based instructional techniques and strategies in the classroom for both content and language instruction
- Disaggregate and analyze test data and assist in the interpreting the data for school improvement
- Effectively plan and teach adults, in both a group and individual setting, to understand and communicate the implications of the changes needed in today's public educational system
- Advocate for Language Acquisition at the state and national level
- Assist with Seal of Biliteracy implementation
- Perform other duties relating to general job function as assigned by supervisor
