POSITION SUMMARY:

As a part of a multi-tiered system of supports, the Academic Excellence Assistant is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experience for students to increase student retention, academic success, and support post-secondary/career goals. Assisting students with goal setting and providing academic support, continuous communication and follow-up to maximize goal attainment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working in a high school setting
  • High School Diploma or GED and
  • Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • 60 College Credits or Passing Grade on ParaPro Test
  • Experience working with a diversified student population
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
  • Ability to work independently
  • Have experience in peer leadership and parental involvement.
  • Hold a valid driver's license with no serious violations.
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administrations, parents and the community.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications.
  • Ability to use constructive techniques to resolve issues

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • As a part of a multi-tiered system of support, this position will provide strategic and targeted support for students to ensure equitable access to high-quality instruction and interventions to meet all students' needs.
  • This position will engage in data-based decision making (using available assessment data, progress monitoring tools, learning management system data and student management systems data) to monitor student progress and follow up with support and intervention to promote high levels of student academic achievement.
  • Will coach student groups to support blended learning strategies with direction from content teacher
  • Assists students with goal setting and identifying, planning for, and overcoming potential obstacles and defining steps in education and career planning.
  • Will build rapport and trust with students to support successful goal completion and student academic success
  • Will support instructors and program efforts to infuse student instruction with persistence and success strategies.
  • This position will aid students and instructors in problem solving related to progress towards academic goals, persistence, and attendance.
  • Support student learning in self-advocacy and embracing responsibility for their own learning and academic success.
  • Maintains monitoring documentation related to the provision of student support as directed.
  • Communicates with parents and students (via call, text, or meeting) to set goals, develop work plans, and share progress to ensure academic success.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal and/or department instructional leader (Member of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports and attends Department Meetings, assigned Professional Development and Staff meetings).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This position does not directly supervise other staff members.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 20 lbs such as boxes, supplies, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
