Job description

Environmental Technician (Water Quality)
Our Water Quality Assurance group is seeking an Environmental Technician to assist with collecting source water, wastewater, and potable water samples throughout our community! The work that you do will ensure compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and the Clean Water Act (CWA).
A day in the life of an Environmental Technician may include:
  • Field sampling in support of Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act compliance
  • Ensuring field instruments are calibrated and all quality control parameters are within acceptable limits
  • Performing various administrative functions within the laboratory (input and maintenance of Water Quality data in GIS and LIMS databases, scheduling field responses, filing and maintaining data packets in adherence to regulatory and organizational records retention policies, etc.)
  • Managing Laboratory Services Customer Response Program (e.g., responding to and following up on inquiries from the community regarding Water Quality and managing the customer service database)
  • Managing the Laboratory Tour Program
  • Leveraging tools and technologies, such as Power BI, PI, SCADA, and GIS to ensure the accessibility of internal and external customer data

Please note that possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required for this position, as at times you will operate a Colorado Springs Utilities vehicle to travel to and from sites to assist with collecting samples.
Who You Are
  • Relevant and progressively responsible experience in a laboratory environment, preferably focused on water and wastewater sampling with field analyses
  • Associate's Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science) is valued
  • Competencies and skills critical for success include organization, attention to detail, customer service, teamwork, and adaptability
