Job description

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Environmental Specialist to assist with field assessments and documentation of environmental resources energy-related projects. The individual will also assist in the compilation of data and the preparation of reports and permitting documents for natural gas and other energy-related projects. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their related experience to develop professionally and grow in today's global environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist environmental field surveys including but not limited to wetland and stream delineations, endangered species surveys, environmental inspections, and compliance monitoring.
  • Data collection using handheld GPS.
  • Assist with the preparation of permit applications, wetland delineation, and other environmental reports.
  • Assist with siting investigations and report preparation.
  • Must be flexible; travel will be expected as part of this position. Fieldwork in rough terrain possible, exposed to weather and outdoor hazards. Travel to remote areas driving on rough roads in a variety of weather conditions.

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience conducting environmental field surveys in OH, PA, WV, or surrounding states.
  • Knowledge of/experience with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual (1987) and Regional Supplements preferred.
  • Experience utilizing handheld GPS a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and technical writing ability.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications; ArcGIS experience a plus.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Must be able to travel, including overnight trips.
  • A valid Driver’s License is required.

  • This position requires hiking up to 2 or more miles per day and carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to hike moderate distances through unimproved terrain, utility rights-of-way, and in remote areas.
  • Fieldwork will be conducted in variable weather and environmental conditions, often requiring long or irregular hours.
  • A commitment to safely performing job duties in these conditions is required.

Experience

Required
  • 2 - 4 years: Related experience.
  • Less than 2 year(s): Experience conducting environmental field surveys in OH, PA, WV, or surrounding states.
Preferred
  • Experience utilizing handheld GPS a plus.
  • Knowledge of/experience with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual (1987) and Regional Supplements preferred.
