Mt. Macrina Manor is a 133 bed, not for profit, skilled nursing facility that has served Southwestern Pennsylvania since 1971. The grounds are located approximately one hour south of Pittsburgh in a scenic, peaceful rural area directly off Route 40 in Uniontown. The facility offers 24 hour nursing care, rehabilitative services, memory care, and pastoral care to all denominations. We accept all residents without regard to race, color, age, sex, national origin, religious creed, disability or genetic information. Our mission is based upon the sponsorship of the Sisters of St. Basil the Great. Our staff continues the mission of the Sisters of providing joyous, compassionate care that preserves the human dignity of all that we serve.
General Description:
The Environment Services Assistant is responsible for performing custodial duties, general laundry duties, and distributes clean linens to departments within established timelines, performance expectations, and in accordance with Mt. Macrina Manor policy and procedures, state and federal guidelines, and all other entities as appropriate.
Essential Duties:
  • Demonstrate an understanding and puts into practice person-centered philosophy by entering into a relationship with the residents, families and staff where the goal is to provide a comfortable and home-like environment and the relationship develops into a meaningful and satisfying one for all involved.
  • Cleaning responsibilities include sweeping, vacuuming, dry/damp mopping, polishing, dusting, cleaning various surface areas i.e. fixtures/walls/porcelain/beds/mattresses/furniture/medical equipment, emptying waste baskets, keeping nick-knacks organized, watering plants, and keeping bathrooms stocked with paper towels and toilet tissue.
  • Maintaining clean and sanitary conditions in assigned areas as directed, according to established standards, observing proper cleaning and disinfecting technique.
  • Uses appropriate cleaners/sanitizer per application. Uses manufacturer's instructions for proper use and preparation of cleaning/sanitizing solutions. Never inter-mixes cleaning solutions. Cleaning products are bottled/stored in appropriately labeled containers.
  • Utilizes procedures to prevent cross-contamination from room to room.
  • Keeps housekeeping products out of residents' reach. Keeps janitor closet locked, housekeeping cart within sight or assures it is stowed in a locked closet. No cleaning supplies stored in resident rooms, resident areas, or public bathrooms. Never distributes facility cleaning products i.e. Lysol etc. to residents or family members. Reports any sighting of non-facility purchased cleaning supplies to management.
  • Utilizes "Wet Floor" signs and assures work areas are free from slip and trip hazards. Does not leave tools and equipment unattended. Assures sweeper/equipment power cords don't create a trip hazard.
  • Assures resident personal laundry returns are accurate. Keep hang tags on personal laundry return racks up-to-date. Return any clothing with loose ID tags to laundry to have re-labeled.
  • Complete and submit a maintenance work order for any needed repairs i.e. bulb/tube replacements, leaks, loose or broken furniture, broken equipment, etc.
  • Keep janitor closet clean, stocked, organized, and secure. Inform Director of Environmental Services of any supplies/tools as needed.
  • Stock housekeeping cart with container of damp microfiber mop heads, rags, cleaning supplies and solutions, sanitizers/wipes, broom and other tools needed to perform daily cleaning responsibilities.
  • Maintains cleaning equipment i.e. vacuum sweepers, mop systems, carts, hand tools, for optimum performance.
  • Attend various facility and departmental in-services and training as required.
  • Any and all duties as directed by management.
  • Customer Service: Demonstrates an understanding and puts into practice excellent customer service by creating a positive first impression, handling with care, being a team player, communicating professionally and acting like an owner.
  • Compliance: Demonstrates commitment to operating in accordance with its mission, vision, and values. Specifically this means maintaining accuracy and integrity in all of its activities, including providing quality, timely, and necessary care to its residents and operating within the limits of local, state and federal regulations.
  • HIPAA: Demonstrates confidentiality through a conscious effort to keep all personal information private. This may include the resident's identity, physical or psychological condition, emotional status, or financial situation.
  • Actively participates in the Resident Dining Program after completing the Feeding Assistant Training Program unless already licensed or certified in an appropriate field. Functions may include: Transporting residents to dining areas, Passing meal trays and assisting residents with tray set-up, Assisting with feeding residents who are not considered high risk, Adhering to dining schedules and assignments, and Completes tasks within safety and regulatory guidelines.

Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must have the ability to be courteous, kind, respectful and understanding when dealing with staff, residents, patients, and their families and other visitors.
  • Ability to read, write and follow oral or written instructions so that the assigned task may be carried out independently. Also able to write a narrative description of the work that has been completed during the shift.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to walk, lift, bend at knees and waist, stoop, kneel, reach, climb step stool, and stand in place for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to push or pull up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to use close vision, peripheral vision, and adjust focus.

Due to regulatory requirement by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid services, a COVID-19 vaccination is required and considered a condition of employment. To be eligible for hire with Mt. Macrina Manor, prospective employees must be fully vaccinated at time of orientation. A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose in a two-shot series, such as the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as the J&J/Janssen vaccine.
