CDM Smith is currently seeking an Environmental Scientist/Analytical chemist to support a wide variety of environmental and remediation projects for a variety of clients, including those in the federal and public sector. The preferred candidate must have the ability to work independently as well as on a team.
As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:
• Analytical experience in a field and/or laboratory environment. The analytical experience should include sample preparation; data analysis, quality control, and reporting; and instrument operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting equipment (e.g., GC-MS, GC-FID/ECD/TCD, Liquid Chromatograph, and Ion Chromatograph).
• Wet chemistry testing.
• Analytical method development and verification, and preparation of standard operating procedures.
• Independent data analysis and interpretation experience is a plus.
• Experience adhering to budget, scope, and schedule constraints.
• Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills.
• Understanding of chemical and biological hazards and considerations at the laboratory scale.
• Coordination with federal contract and regional laboratories, and CDM Smith subcontracted laboratories.
• Preparation and review of Quality Assurance Project Plans, sampling and analysis plans, and data management plans, and analytical procurement documents.
• Support development of fate and transport evaluations.
• Resolution of analytical laboratory challenges and issues.
• Validation of analytical data packages and assessment of data quality.
• Support project teams with fieldwork, sample packaging, and shipping and tracking, as needed
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Science or related discipline. 3 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
• 4 years field experience with BS degree in chemistry
• 40-hour OSHA hazardous waste operations and response (HAZWOPER) certification is preferred.
• OSHA HAZWOPER training will be available upon employment.
• Employee should be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
